UE49KS8000 4k MKV Stuttering/Buffering issues

Hello, i'm an old Serviio user, that for the first time had to write for help, i have searched everywhere on the forum but can't find a solution for my issue.
And the issue is:
I have an UE49KS8000 samsung TV (before this one i had a UE46D7000 set) and never had an issue with Serviio, everything that i threw to the TVs through Serviio played fine.
Since i updated Serviio to the version 1.9.1, i no longer can watch 4k mkv through Serviio without constant Stuttering/Buffering issues.
I don' t remember which version i had before the 1.9.1, i do remember that there wasn't a KS profile (and still there isn't on the 1.9.1) so, the profile i used was the J profile, after the update to the 1.9.1 version, i worked with M profile until i realized there were issues with 4k mkv, on the Serviio console i reassigned the J profile to the TV and the J profile (on v 1.9.1) also has constant Stuttering/Buffering issues and also the Generic DLNA profile.
Transcoding is disabled since the first time i started working with Serviio, my PC is connected to the TV through Gigabit ethernet cable/router.

I leave here mediainfo of a 4k mkv that worked fine with an older version of Serviio but with the v1.9.1 has constant Stuttering/Buffering issues, with the hope that someone can help me.

Thanks

Hello Zip,

Transcoding is already off since 2014.
But i think ( its more a feeling that i have) that no matter the profile i use it still tries to transcode.

Have you enabled Burned in captions? That will force transcoding regardless of the setting.

Hi,

On the Delivery menu this are the settings that are OFF:

enable transcoding: OFF
enable extraction of text-based subtitles embedded in video files: OFF
enable burned-in subtitles: OFF
enable retrieving subtitles from opensubtitle.org: OFF

on the languages submenu everything is OFF

Re: UE49KS8000 4k MKV Stuttering/Buffering issues

I think you need to determine whether it is being transcoded or not as the first step. While the movie is plating on your TV (and stuttering along) then on your Serviio PC open a browser and type:
http://localhost:23423/rest/playback-status

When it returns, find your playing item and note the <itemTranscoded> field - true is transcoded, false is not.

ps. you can also see whether its transcoded by looking at the playback icon on the status tab of Serviio Console. The icon colour tells you whether its transcoded or not - I just can never remember what colour is what :D

Re: UE49KS8000 4k MKV Stuttering/Buffering issues

I believe the icon is red for transcoding, and green for direct playback. but don't hold me to that! :lol:

Re: UE49KS8000 4k MKV Stuttering/Buffering issues

So, it's not transcoding:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

-<playback>

-<client>

<itemId>449709</itemId>

<itemTitle>Warcraft 4K</itemTitle>

<itemThumbnailUrl>/rest/thumbnail/815006</itemThumbnailUrl>

<playbackProgress>0</playbackProgress>

<clientIPAddress>XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX</clientIPAddress>

<clientName>UE49KS8000</clientName>

<rendererUuid>c366166e-a3ad-49f9-b63d-24402d0ba331</rendererUuid>

<itemTranscoded>false</itemTranscoded>

</client>

</playback>

AND i found where was the problem:

I had my TV connected through LAN CAT6 cable to my FritzBox 7490, the TV network card is only 100mbps AND i also had my TV connected to my FritzBox through Wireless, some point in time i should had made a change on my FritzBox because only Wireless N 2.4ghz was enabled, when i re-enabled Wireless AC 5Ghz on the FritzBox, 4K mkvs started working fine again.

So, there is no problem with Serviio, it is still the Best (installed on my PC/SERVER since 2012).

Thank you for all the help guys.

P.S- 4K DLNA on 100mbps network card TV is a no go.

Re: UE49KS8000 4k MKV Stuttering/Buffering issues

I've been able to use DLNA to stream UHD rips with no issue using Ethernet. When I monitor the network activity on my Serviio PC while streaming 4K, I see about 50-60 Mbps, with peaks pushing 90 Mbps. So if those peaks were sustained, yes there could be an issue. But for me, I haven't encountered an issue. But even if you had a Ethernet cable connected, it wouldn't be enabled if you connect the wireless card. There shouldn't have been an issue between them, but who knows?

I'm still trying to understand what has happened, but i monitored now the network activity streaming Warcraft 4k mkv and i had a peak of 130 Mbps and the average is between 70 Mbps and 90 Mbps.

Re: UE49KS8000 4k MKV Stuttering/Buffering issues

Yep, that high of a steady bitrate is certainly hitting the upper limits of 100 BaseT Ethernet. Buffering with that level makes sense. I haven't seen a bitrate that high, but I only have 3 UHD rips to play with, and all three titles are older movies, so may not be encoded as high of a bitrate as a newer title. You can't add resolution that isn't there to begin with. :D

Re: UE49KS8000 4k MKV Stuttering/Buffering issues

This weekend i will try to get a 4k mkv with a lower bitrate for testing purposes, because the other one that i have has 70.7 Mbps of bitrate.
