The Need for transcoding to wmv3(VC-1)
As I have identified in the "No MPEG-2 Skipping" thread viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2714
the Samsung 2011 D series does not support "skipping" (jumping forward and back with the left/right direction buttons, and to a time code via the Tools menu) for DLNA MPEG-2 video streams.
While this impacts the ability to properly view MPEG-2 files except for playing from start to finish, it also means that any video transcoded using mpegts or mpegps will also be unable to jump. The third available transcoding option is to asf, but due to ffmpeg limitations can only transcode to wmv2, however the Samsung D Series can only play wmv3 videos (and jump is supported).
There is however an MS Encoder that can be invoked with a script, and so I'm wondering if that could be used by Serviio to transcode to wmv3?
This would allow Samsung 2011 Series D users to transcode all formats including any mpeg's to wmv3(VC-1) and jump within them as required.
