PS3 not transcoding cetain files

This is an awesome product and *ALOT* better then the default that comes with WHS.

The device I'm using is a Sony PS3 updated to latest firmware.
The system is a WHS v1 x86 machine with the ServiioWHS 0.5.2, same version for the Serviio Media Server.

It works great on most files except for a movie I was trying to watch that was Divx 1.2 Mbps encoded AVI. I have similar files that were near the same spec and played perfectly.
This file doesn't seem to be detected by Serviio as needing to be transcoded/wrapped and just comes up with "The data type is not supported (800288BF)"

Is this a configuration issue or something with the profiles? Thanks

Re: PS3 not transcoding cetain files

this file should normally play, according to the information ffmpeg gives. That's why it's not transcoding. Obviously there is something wrong in how it was encoded that the PS3 doesn't like. You'll have to reencode it unless you want to transcode all avi's (which would be overhead)

I have a few files that say this.. is it just bad encodes? I usually try to convert everything with divx if I can. What do you mean by overhead?

yes it is just bad encoding it happens i have had a few files like that.

i think ZIP means " overkill " meaning it will transcode all AVI's even if they would play natively juust to make a few bad files play.

Re: PS3 not transcoding cetain files

So just re-encoding these files with the Divx tool would be alright? Or just start over with a fresh copy?

if you have the original, it's better to use that otherwise you're losing quality

Re: PS3 not transcoding cetain files

Thanks for all the help on this, I just have to go through and re-encode the few that don't work.

I'm coming from TVersity where it seems to do it automatically but I suspect there's a lot of overhead on that and I didn't like the way it sorted things for you instead of allowing you to use your own sorting.
