Sony Bravia 2009 Series KDL-40WE5

Based on the Topic for Sony Bravia 2010 EX5 etc.

....Of course <Detection> could include other Bravia Models as well

I added the following to "\serviio\config\profiles.xml" :=

<Profile id="9" name="Sony Bravia TV" extendsProfileId="1">

<Detection>
<X-AV-Client-Info>(BRAVIA KDL.+40WE5)|(BRAVIA KDL.+EX50)</X-AV-Client-Info>
</Detection>

<DeviceDescription>
<FriendlyName>Serviio ({computerName})</FriendlyName>
<ModelName>Serviio Media Server</ModelName>
</DeviceDescription>

<Transcoding>
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3">
<Matches container="asf" />
</Video>
<Video targetContainer="mpegts">
<Matches container="matroska" />
<Matches container="mp4" />
</Video>
</Transcoding>
</Profile>

I also generated a sink file for my Sony Bravia KDL-40WE5

I have a Sony Bravia TV (Model BRAVIA KDL-40WE5) and the directory structure is recognised, but when you open there are no items.
This great media server works great on my attached Sony Playstation PS3 (love the thumbnail feature), but on the Sony Bravia TV DLNA ethernet connection, its almost there.

If you go Serviio -> Video -> All Titles -> A (or any other) -> "There are no items to display"

Since I have already DLNA built into my Sony Bravia TV I want to save energy by not turning on the PS3 unnecessarily, as the PS3 runs rather hot and wastes energy

Any bright ideas would be highly appreciated

Re: Sony Bravia 2009 Series KDL-40WE5

Breakthrough!!!!!

I am Windows 7 64 bit with Servio 0.4.1

I was browsing through User Experiences on the Serviio Forum and came across "Testing with Sony KDL-40W5840" whose Sink File for Bravia BRAVIA KDL-40WE5 TV‏ looks exactly like my Bravia KDL-40WE5.

Hence I modified my profiles.xml in the serviio config folder as follows

<Profile id="9" name="Sony Bravia TV" extendsProfileId="1">
<Detection>
<X-AV-Client-Info>BRAVIA.*</X-AV-Client-Info>
</Detection>
<Transcoding>
<Video targetContainer="mpeg" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3">
<Matches container="avi" />
</Video>
</Transcoding>
</Profile>

and VOILA!! it works.....

Maybe with a bit of work the newer Bravia EX3, EX4 etc can be incorporated as well. Their sink file appear to have a lot more entries than the older KDL-40WE5 or KDL-40W5840.

With a bit of work, Serviio is the best media server in the world for Sony Bravia DLNA TVs

The automatic thumbnails from TheMoveDB.org etc and having Alphabetical Titles so you don't have to scroll through a long movie list to reach the THEs is just fantastic.
Crappier media server with these features like Wild Media Server where you have to manually add Thumbnails and take forever to scroll down to reach all the THEs movies like "The Lord of the Rings"

Maybe this new Sony Bravia TV profile can be included in the next release 0.4.2

Cheers,
Paul from Downunder

Re: Sony Bravia 2009 Series KDL-40WE5

Hello Bravia user !

I'm trying the same bravia profile, <Video targetContainer="mpeg" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="mp3">, but no video for my EX500 LCD model, this is a ffmpeg.exe crash!!

I think we could merge 2009/2010 Bravia DLNA experience with serviio and create a common profile.xml

Re: Sony Bravia 2009 Series KDL-40WE5

Guys:
I also have a 2009 Bravia (KDL-52XBR9), but I still can't get the .avi files to show up. I have modified the profiles script as described in other threads (although the syntax under <detection> varies slightly). Is it ".BRAVIA*." or "BRAVIA*." ? The serviio server only shows up under the audio and picture icons in the Bravia Menu (not the video icon). I can navigate to the folders, but I get the dreaded "No items to display"... Where does the server show up for you?

Thanks in advance

In all sony menu (Audio/Video/Picture) "serviio server" icon appeares for me (ex500)!

Could you install and execute the following tools.
The aim is to provide an overview of the capabilities of UPnP AV devices.

Re: Sony Bravia 2009 Series KDL-40WE5

I am not certain that you used the tool cleanly, the result looks like an xml file format, not a log file...

This a Windows OS tool.
- Dowload the tools here
- Unzip to c:\temp for example
- Launch C:\Temp\magpie4\magpie.cmd, first a Dos window appeares and following a java console.
Select a device (in the left panel : BRAVIA KDL-52XBR9) to automatically analyze the device.
When the analysis is done you will find the raw result in th right panel.
You can submit your data then by clicking the button on top or Copy/Paste the result on forum

Otherwise, you can look at this "HOWTO: Provide supported formats of a device topic
Nevertheless, Magpie tools is interesting for updating the online UPnp devices database

Re: Sony Bravia 2009 Series KDL-40WE5

Despite the Sony Specs for the KDL-40WE5, it would appear in actual fact not to support MPEG TS (Transport Stream).

No major problem, I settled on the following Sony Bravia TV Profile

  Code:
<Profile id="9" name="Sony Bravia TV" extendsProfileId="1">

            <Detection>
                <X-AV-Client-Info>BRAVIA.*</X-AV-Client-Info>
            </Detection>

            <Transcoding>

                <Video targetContainer="mpeg" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3">
                   <Matches container="asf" />
                   <Matches container="avi" />
                   <Matches container="matroska" />
                   <Matches container="mp4" />
                   <Matches container="mpegts" />
                </Video>

            </Transcoding>

         </Profile>

For testing
1) Sample MPEG TS, both high and standard definition from:
http://www.nextcomwireless.com/R5000/samples.htm

2) Sample Divx Plus HD - high definition MKV (H.264 + AAC) from:
http://www.divx.com/en/electronics/solu ... s-hd/video

3) Sample Quicktime MOV from:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1425

All 3 are recognised and played except for (3) where it starts to play then says temporarily lost connection to server. I would expect the mp4 code to work.

The KDL-40WE5 plays High Definition MKV but starts to stutter. I think there is no problem with the Serviio Server itself, but we reached the maximum streaming throughput. The KDL-40WE5 only has an Ethernet 100 Mbps wired connection and no wireless connection.

DivX Plus HD Works great on my PS3 Playstation (with Playstation 3 Serviio profile) when I use my gigabit switch. The PS3 has a 1,000 Mbps gigabit wired connection. When I select PS3 wireless, starts to stutter even more than my Bravia TV. The PS3 only has 802.11 b/g and not n, so the maximum speed is only 54 Mbps which is much less than Ethernet 100 Mbps.

So as far as the KDL-40WE5, and other similiar vintage Bravia TVs are concerned, only Standard Definition SD DLNA streaming is possible.

Do you guys concur?

Cheers
Paul

Re: Sony Bravia 2009 Series KDL-40WE5

you can set maximum video bitrate in transcoding definition

regarding mepg2ts, I'm not sure if the TV expects the exact DLNA profile name, as those in protocol info are different to what Serviio supports, but you should be able to cheat, like:

  Code:
<MediaFormatProfiles>
   <MediaFormatProfile name="AVC_TS_HD_50_AC3">AVC_TS_MP_HD_AC3</MediaFormatProfile>
</MediaFormatProfiles>

This example will serve HD mpeg2ts movies with the same mime-type (video/vnd.dlna.mpeg-tts) but with DLNA profile name of AVC_TS_HD_50_AC3 instead of AVC_TS_MP_HD_AC3. Try a HD TS file with AC3 if it plays, if it does we can add the other profile names (or you can do it yourselves, look at profiles.xml, generic profile, mpegts profiles usualy have the above mentioned mime-type)

Re: Sony Bravia 2009 Series KDL-40WE5

Thanks Petr.

Would you have some suggestions for video bitrate for DivX Plus HD on an wired ethernet 100 Mbps wired connection.

I suppose its like trial and error for the video to be smooth without stuttering.

Cheers,
Paul Bravia

try 15000 kb, also is your PC strong enough to run the on-the-fly transcode of HD content?

btw, see my above message (I edited it)

Good job PaulBravia !

I have a look at Sony Europe
Sony Bravia 2009 models series, with the same firmware version (PKG1.741EA 14/07/2010)
* KDL-22E5300 / E5310
* KDL-32E5500 / E5510 / E5520 / V5500 / V5610 / W5500 / W5710 / W5720 / W5730 / W5740
* KDL-37V5500 / V5610 / W5500 / W5710 / W5720 / W5730 / W5740
* KDL-40E5500 / E5510 / E5520 / V5500 / V5610 / W5500 / W5710 / W5720 / W5730 / W5740 / WE5 / Z5500 / Z5710
* KDL-46V5500 / V5610 / W5500 / W5710 / W5720 / W5730 / W5740 / WE5 / Z5500
* KDL-52V5500 / V5610 / W5500 / Z5500

And a snapshot of manual said:

To play files that are received from a network device, they need to conform to one of the following file formats.
- Still images : JPEG format
- Music : MP3 format or Linear PCM format
- Video : The following file formats stored on the server: AVCHD, HDV, MPEG2-PS (which in some cases may not be able to be played)
The file name and folder name support only English.

No MPEG2-TS for 2009 Bravia series, so your Profile.xml is well convenient for me.

Ok, so can you guys finalize your profiles and give them some useful names so that I can include them in 0.4.2? ;-) I'm not sure if there is an easy name convention like the Samsungs have for year edition (A,B,C series).

but I then I got "cannot conect to serviio server"
when I enter in CMD console "net start serviio" (run as Administrator) and click on Servio Console icon in Start Menu (Windows 7)

so I fell back to my previous profiles.xml above.

When I remove <Matches container="mpegts" /> from my profiles.xml I get "playback not available" when I select my sample.ts video file although the icon appears.

So this is probably the best profiles.xml for my vintage Bravia and maybe Illico's KDL-46EX501 EX5 etc series unless Illico needs further minor adjustments. Looking at the specs for some of the latest 3D IPTV Bravia beasties, there appears to be no further changes as far as DLNA is concerned.

So this could be a good profile candidate for Sony Bravia TV to be included in Servio 0.4.2

Do you guys concur?

Sorry, I'm newbie with DLNA and Serviio features, I read all http://www.serviio.org pages you provide but, I did not know that we could make it!
I assume that all supported formats are exposed on Profile.xml file on <Profile id="1" name="Generic DLNA profile"> ?

I will try tonight for my EX500 model.

MediaFormatProfiles - defines set of media format profiles (or their changes) the renderer expects. All the format profiles are defined for Generic DLNA profile and you should only change those that cause your media files to be unrecognized by your device.
Attributes:
* mime-type - mime-type to be used as an identified of media files with this format profile
* name - DLNA format profile name to be sent to the device as a part of DLNA protocol info (DLNA_PN field), if different from the internal format profile name

THX, I will test that.
