[SOLVED] Sony STR-DA5700ES

I have figured out a limitation of this receiver STR-dA5700ES is that streaming from a DLNA server such as Servio is not possible for AAC files. I am trying to use serviio to stream from my computer some Chicago radio stations. If I can find their feed as an MP3 stream it works perfectly. However AAC will not work. I tried modifying my profile to allow transcoding for the receiver. Below is the modifications/additions to my profile file. Any suggestions on how to modify the profile

<Profile id="5700ES" name="Sony STR-DA5700ES" extendsProfileId="1" alwaysEnableTranscoding="true">

<Transcoding>
<Audio targetContainer="mp3" forceInheritance="true" >
<Matches container="mp4"/>

</Audio>
</Transcoding>
</Profile>

Re: Sony STR-DA5700ES

Woaw, seems this Sony device can read a lot of format.
First select "Generic" profile on serviio console and check format that works and format that does not work, we will add thess on a new specific profile.
To create the new profile, with Spy tool (http://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=device_sf), we need device description xml element like (example) :
<friendlyName>BRAVIA KDL-46EX501</friendlyName>
<manufacturer>Sony Corporation</manufacturer>
<manufacturerURL>http://www.sony.net/</manufacturerURL>
<modelName>KDL-46EX501</modelName>

Re: Sony STR-DA5700ES

The profile header information is

<friendlyName> Sony STR-DA5700ES</friendlyName>
<manufacturer>Sony Corporation</manufacturer>
<manufacturerURL>http://www.sony.net/</manufacturerURL>
<modelName>STR-DA5700ES</modelName>

Right now I am looking how to have Serviio transcode internet radio which is in AAC format to MP3 format. The device manual does state that it the receiver will not work with AAC from a DLNA server. The profile modification in my first post was my attempt to get Serviio to perform the transcoding.

Re: Sony STR-DA5700ES

Thanks,

I edit a specific profile for your device familly (edit profiles.xml, save and restart serviio services or reboot)

- Could you check that your device is automatically found and proper profile is selected ("Sony AVReceiver STR")

- For Serviio to transcode your AAC internet radio, I add "OnlineTranscoding" section, AAC (adts) audio is transcoded to LPCM (lossless), but you can change the output to mp3 (comment/uncomment proper section)

- Also added transcoding section for other format not supported by the device ( according to GetProtocolInfo result).
- Also added some mime-type rename ( according to GetProtocolInfo result).
- Does this sony device use a XBMC menu "look-like", then when you select DLNA audio section, do you see 3 folders Audio/Video/Images ? If yes could you try to uncomment bellow the "DeviceDescription" section, save and restart serviio service and check what folder you see? (This is how its used on Sony Bravia devices)

Re: Sony STR-DA5700ES

Illico - thank you for all your help. The profile as you drafted worked and solved my problem.

My serviio server shows three folders on the receiver, audio, video and images, the options in serviio console allow me to disable whatever folders to keep the display to only what is used. I tried un-commenting out the line <!--DeviceDescription> and got an error starting up the server. To clarify I changed the mentioned line to: "<DeviceDesription>" instead of "<!--DeviceDesription>" Here is the portion of the log file when I made the change

2012-11-13 06:59:23,222 ERROR [XmlUtils] XML Profiles.xsd didn't pass validation, reason: The end-tag for element type "ContentDirectoryDefinitionFilter" must end with a '>' delimiter.
2012-11-13 06:59:23,222 ERROR [MediaServer] An unexpected error occured. Ending the application. Message: org.serviio.profile.ProfilesDefinitionException: Profiles XML file is not valid (according to the schema). Check the log.

Re: Sony STR-DA5700ES

I didn't closely pay attention to all the code and notice the end comment syntax. Yes the change now works and it simplifies the folders seen to just online, eliminates the layer with audio, video and images. If I add other content will it then show up automatically? thanks again

Nice.

Not sure to understand your question...
I try to write the profile according to GetProtocolInfo result. So file format not supported should be transcoded.
But if some files failed to play, post information "ffmpeg -i <file>" here.
So this profile could be added to the next release.

Sorry for the necropost. Wanted to reply to viewtopic.php?f=11&t=8342 but that one is locked.

I am trying to wrap my head around these profiles in general and using this thread as an example.
I hit some bumps and I think I just realised it is because of this is an old version.
Today profiles.xml looks like this in the generic profile:
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="audio/x-ms-wma">WMABASE</MediaFormatProfile>

Meaning this one is wrong, right?:
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="audio/x-ms-wma" name="WMABASE">WMA_BASE</MediaFormatProfile>

Would guess profiles.xml used to look like this:
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="audio/x-ms-wma">WMA_BASE</MediaFormatProfile>

So if my assumptions are correct I am biginning to understand a little better. :)

Next question. What does this mean:
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/x-ms-wmv" name="WMVSPLL_BASE,WMVSPML_MP3,WMVSPML_BASE,WMVHM_BASE">WMVMED_FULL</MediaFormatProfile>
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/x-ms-wmv" name="WMVSPLL_BASE,WMVSPML_MP3,WMVSPML_BASE,WMVHM_BASE">WMVHIGH_FULL</MediaFormatProfile>
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/x-ms-wmv" name="WMVSPLL_BASE,WMVSPML_MP3,WMVSPML_BASE,WMVHM_BASE">WMVMED_PRO</MediaFormatProfile>
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/x-ms-wmv" name="WMVSPLL_BASE,WMVSPML_MP3,WMVSPML_BASE,WMVHM_BASE">WMVHIGH_PRO</MediaFormatProfile>

It looks to me you assign the same 4 formats to 4 diffent profiles?
Do we not know which on should be the right one so we ask it to try all 4?
Which one will be chosen? will it just pick the first that works, so the order matters?

Hope someone can clarify this for me. Thanks.
