When using my LG UH7707 4K TV for watching pictures stored on my W10 PC with Serviio I expierince VERY bad qality of the pictures. Resolution shown on the screen is only 640x480.
After set-up of annoying Microsoft DLNA server (Media player) on the same PC I can see pictures in the full quality without problem.
So how to set-up Serviio to show my pistures in full quality on the LG 4K TV?
BTW: On my older FHD LG TV it works with Serviio without problems...

What profile is being assigned to the new TV? And to the old?

I'm having the same issue on my LG 4K. I have tried both the generic profile and the LG profile with same result. Videos I'm trying to watch were created in mt2s or mpeg4 format and when I watch them they display at 720x480. Help please.

I had posted this on the transcoding thread under Extremely Low Resolution heading:

We recently moved and after getting settled in our new house I went to watch a video I had created on my PC on our LG 60" 4K TV. At our old house everything was sharp as a tack for high resolution. (I may add that I have been using Serviio for more than 5 years, I think. First version was 1.1.) I id upgrade to v 1.9 Pro recently but the Wi-Fi, the PC, and the TV are all the same. All videos and pictures from Serviio are displaying at extremely low resolution and are virtually unwatchable. I get the same result using the generic profile or the LG profile.Help please. Videos I am trying to watch are mt2s or mpeg4. When the display they come up as 720x480. Not good. Please help.

Can you post MediaInfo for the file.

This will not likely be a transcoding issue, but we better check. Both the Generic DLNA and LG profiles do not transcode anything by default. You can see if its being transcoded by (when the video is playing):

  1. in Serviio Console there will be a small Play icon next to the device on the Status tab. If you click on it, it will show give you info on what is playing. The icon is orange when transcoding and blue when playing the file natively; or
  2. In your browser on the Serviio PC, type "http://localhost:23423/rest/playback-status". On the resulting screen check the <itemTranscoded> tag for your device. It's true when transcoding and false when not. If running Serviio on a NAS change localhost for the IP address of the NAS

If it is being transcoded try disabling subtitles (and Save, and test for transcoding again after restarting the playback. You may need to restart Serviio/your NAS).

There is no play button next to any devices listed on my status tab so I am unable to do that. That begs the question why I don't have the play button. The only thing there is a small circle with or without a button inside to show it's active or absent the button, not active. I have tried disabling the subtitles and found no change.

I did forget to mention one crucial (possibly)piece of information, my TV, Roku, and Blu-Ray player are now all connected to a Pioneer FS-EB70 soundbar and the soundbar is then connected to the ARC HDMI port on the LG TV. I did not find any profiles for any Pioneer products in your list. Also I have tried disabling transcoding and subtitles but no change, still a very low resolution. Hope this helps. I've always liked the Serviio application for watching my home videos on the TV.

Was the video playing via Serviio on your TV at the time you looked for the Play button? Try the other method as well. The video must be playing.... you are using the latest version of Serviio?

Which device is connected to Ethernet/wifi. Does the Roku or Bluray also exhibit this problem (assuming you are using these with Serviio as well?).

Ps. Have you tried unplugging the sound bar... can’t see how it would be the case, but....

Replying back to this original question:
Serviio attaches profiles to devices, and both the Generic DLNA as well as the existing LG TV profiles are very conservative. It limits image display to 4096x4096 px max. Beyond it will send SM resolution image instead.

I created a file config/user-profiles.xml with this content:
  Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<Profiles version="1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="http://www.serviio.org/xsd/profiles/v/1.9.1/Profiles.xsd">
   <Profile id="lg4ktv" name="LG 4k TV" extendsProfileId="1">
     <ThumbnailsResolution>HD</ThumbnailsResolution>
     <AutomaticImageRotation>true</AutomaticImageRotation>
     <LimitImageResolution>false</LimitImageResolution>
   </Profile>
</Profiles>

My LG can display JPGs 10000x7500px just fine.
Restart your PC and attach the "LG 4k TV" profile in the list of connected devices.
The advantage of file config/user-profiles.xml is that it survives a release update of Serviio.

Somebody with a full profile of 2016+ 4k LG TVs (4k and OLED?) Above, I only fixed the image display issue.
