Micro stutters with some .MKV UT50

Dear forum members,

I use Serviio and it's working great most of the time!
I use mainly .MKV files 720P and 1080P some files play perfect others have micro stutters.
I have subtitles disabled because this cause lag always.

My game pc has pretty good set up and it's wired to my router so is my Panasonic UT50 also.

How is it possible that some .MKV files have micro stutters and some not? Audio is perfect only the video stutters sometimes.

Is there a way to give video information of the good and bad mkv's so somebody can guide me to change my serviio profile?

Which profile are you currently using?
My two minute investigation suggests the UT50 should support MKV's natively. The 2011/12 profile will pass through most MKV's natively, although some audio types get transcoded (which then requires both the audio and video to be remuxed). This may be the cause, although never seen it to be before (audio transcoding isn't processor intensive).

Let us know what profile you are presently using, and post MediaInfo details for a file that is stuttering. When the file is playing, what is the CPU load (% utilised) on the PC? Also, what type of media does the TV think its getting (in the info panel when you pause a movie, it will show "Video", "DivX', "MPEG-2" etc) - is it the same for a good file and a stuttering one?

Interestingly the 2011/12 profile transcodes the audio in an MP4/H264/AAC file to AC3, but not for MKV's. I wonder if this may be a problem (although AAC in MKV's is not unusual, AAC is generally more associated with MP4 containers)? Curious that it is transcoded in MP4's, but not MKV's?

A quick thing to try. Edit profiles.xml and in the Panasonic Viera G/GT/DT/UT/VT (2011/2012) profile add the line:

<Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="aac" />
directly after the line
<Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="truehd" />

Save the file and restart your PC. See if that makes any difference - this will now transcode the audio to AC3. If not, change it back.

Yes, I not sure that panasonic device support natively mkv/h264/AAC, within mkv audio is usually DTS or AC3. AAC is used with MP4.

How can I set specific audio types to be converted to ac3?
And after which line in the profile it must be added.?
Or will that don't work and cause extra lag?

1) I'im not sure that device support "Frame rate mode : Variable" with h264 video codec.
2) Could you try to remux with mkvmerge version 5.5.0

Found version 6.30, how and in what do you wan't me to remux it?

Open your mkv and create a new one with this old version of mkvmerge, then try to play this file with your device.

Sadly didn't work...... A 1 gb mkv was ready in 2 min or so, did it change anything of the file?

How can I set specific audio types to be converted to ac3?

We did that here for AAC audio: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=12505#p76692, but it didn't work.

I think we need to work out whether this is the audio or video stream causing the stuttering by doing some tests:

• Switch to the Panasonic Viera (2010) profile. This is the same as the 2011/12 profile but transcodes both video and audio for all mkv files. Press Save and see if the file plays without stuttering;
• If it plays perfectly then edit your profiles.xml file. Edit the Panasonic Viera (2010) profile and change the line:
  <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3">
  to
  <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3">
  This will now only transcode the audio. Save profiles.xml and remember to restart your PC (Serviio service must fully restart to load the new profile). Test again. If this works then it tells us that the video stream is fine.
• If it plays perfectly then edit your Panasonic Viera (2010) profile again and change the same line to read:
  <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video">
  This will now only transcode the video. Save profiles.xml and restart your PC. Test again. If this works then it tells us that the audio stream is fine.

The results of this test should help us down the correct path.
