XVID/DIVX's on TX-L37G20B...

Is there something "special" I need to do to get Divx/Xvid avi files to play on this TV? I have a series of files all of which play no problems at all on a Sony BDP-s570, but all error on the TX-L37G20B. There is no errors in the log, so I suspect the TV is the problem. Below is the ffmgeg -i output from the first three:

The extension is avi? Other than than how do you tell?

The TV can see them. It displays an icon image from the file and it knows they are Divx files. When I hit play it says "Please Wait" followed by "Cannot Read File". Odd thing is it's not every file though!

The following does play on the TV:

Re: XVID/DIVX's on TX-L37G20B...

Worked it out! Well the cause anyway. Seems the TV does not like Divx files encoded with "transcode-1.x.x".

It's happy to play Divx files encoded with "MEncoder dev-SVN-r26940", "MEncoder SVN-r32669-4.3.2", and "VirtualDubMod" though.

That's the problem, the solution, other than recoding them... Pass.

Could you verify with MediaInfo, the codec used ?

Re: XVID/DIVX's on TX-L37G20B...

I have a feeling that the files are actualy MP4 and not avi, if your using win 7 the quickest way to tell is hover the mouse over the file and see what the video codec is if it say AVI then its correct if it say Mpeg4 then rename the file .MP4 and you mght find they play. :)

Also if they do have wrong extension window wont give you a thumbnail for the file till you give it the correct extension.

Running XP. The thumbnails on the PC are there for the files that work and the ones that don't. One's that work are listed as MPEG-4 as are ones that do not work. The only common link between all those that error on the Panasonic TX-L37G20B TV is the Transcode-1.0.6 encoder. All the files play on my Sony BDP-s570.

Is it possible to set the profile to scan for "transcode-1.0.6" as the encoder type and then transcode it into something else?

P.S. TV firmware is up to date too, checked last night.

[SOLVED] XVID/DIVX's on TX-L37G20B...

I added the following lines to the Panasonic profile:

  Code:

<!-- Remux all avi s to MPEG-TS stream -->
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" >
   <Matches container="avi" vCodec="mpeg4" />
</Video>

They all play now. TV see 'em all as Mpeg-ts files.

Good, probably could be added to the 0.5.1 version.

Are we positive that all AVI's with divx need to be transcoded to mpeg2? Nobody complained before afaik.

Its not all. It only seems to dislike the ones from a particular encoder. Is there a way of remuxing an AVI based on the encoder name?

No. I'll leave the profile as it is then and people can hack the profile if they need to.

Re: XVID/DIVX's on TX-L37G20B...

I have a Panasonic Viera TX-L42D25B TV (see the start of the 'Panasonic Viera and Serviio' post) and have the same issue with XviD videos not playing when the software use to create them was 'transcode-1.0.6' or other versions of 'transcode'. However after a lot of head scratching I found that if I loaded these files into "DivFix++_v0.34" which is an app used to 'fix' bad DivX and XviD files and use the 'fix' option then the new files work fine! This process only takes a small number of seconds which better than re-encoding each video or forcing Serviio to transcode them.

Re: XVID/DIVX's on TX-L37G20B...

I tried DivFix++ but it caused issues. I repaired three AVI's first two played okay, but the third one locked up. When I backed out and went back in all of them had disappeared from the Series tab! I rebooted my PC and updated the library but they would not come back! So I replaced them with the originals and added my transcode line back in and they reappeared and the third one played.

I'll stick to transcoding them...

I know that some Vieras cannot read natively XVID encoded films, only DIVX encoded ones.
Maybe you could try changing the 4FourCC used codec and fourCC used description from XVID to DIVX with Avi FourCC code changer.

Okay a bit more experimenting. Most of my AVIs seem to work after the index has been rebuilt with DivFix++ but a small number fail in a checking for errors loop. Using DivFix rather than DivFix++ seems to work (so far) every time - and it seems much faster as well.

Hi, I was wondering, why some of my xvid avis don't work on my G20, and this thread was very helpful. I just wanted to let you know that
  Code:
mencoder -oac copy -ovc copy ...

can also be used to "fix" these vidoes for G20.
