Sorry, I'm new to this world, so I'm a bit confused. I didn't get if it is a reply to my post or if it is just an observeation to the quoted post.

This unfortunately doesn't seem to work.

The perl script may or may not always work, but padding transcoded files to 16:9 aspect ratio DOES work, so that would be a big step forward.

It may not be a solution for all files which play with bad aspect ratios, but it works fine for movies with 2.40:1, 2.35:1, and 1.85:1 aspect ratios. We know that -

1) other DLNA servers can play these files correctly on Panasonic Viera sets,
2) Mezzmo uses ffmpeg also, transcodes these files to Mpeg-2 TS w. 16:9 aspect ratio, and plays correctly
3) files padded using ffmpeg as described below play correctly on both Sony and Panasonic sets

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5403

So, I would say that if Mezzmo can do this using ffmpeg, good chance that Serviio could do it also, at least for files being transcoded to MPEG-2 TS format... :D

Re: aspect ratio

Another solution in the Viera's options menu: Turn off 16:9 Overscan (in Picture/Advanced Settings). It seems this settings is specific to DLNA inputs, so it won't affect other inputs (although I haven't tried everything). :)

Was a fix ever found as my Panny e5b stretches loads of files in serviio that seem to play ok through Mezzmo (15 day trial at the moment)

Re: aspect ratio

I'm getting this problem more often since upgrading to v1.x. Doesn't occur half as often on 0.6.2 with the updated 2011 Panasonic profile.

Example file is an H.264 MKV MPEG4 AVC @ 1920x816, DTS sound and subtitles.
0.6.2 - fine
1.0.1 - incorrect aspect

New aspect ratio adjust feature (DAR), is added only when transcoding is used.
So its probably because on 0.6.2, your file was delivered in native format and on 1.0.1 our file is transcoded. Could you check that ? (What is the h264 profile level?)

Re: aspect ratio

So I've stumbled on a solution (I think). In console under the Status Tab, change the profile. Mine was on Panasonic Viera; I changed it to Phillips (2009) and it seems to work. I have tried any other profiles because it worked with the first one I tried. Hope that helps!

You might need to press the aspect button on your remote to get it to work.

Re: aspect ratio

The Philips (2009) transcodes all MKV and MP4 files which may be an overkill depending on which model Pana you have.

In the latest (1.4.1.2) Panasonic profiles most of the cases where the video needs to be transcoded and is likely to have > 16:9 aspect ratio (ie. h264 video) have been set to pad the video to display the proper aspect ratio. The majority of problems arises when video is being remuxed.

So we are faced with a choice:
  • Transcode all [h264] video even where remuxing will suffice. This will then transcode all video even where the aspect ratio is 16:9 or 4:3 (these ratios can be remuxed fine - its only where the aspect ratio is greater than 16:9 we have a problem);
  • Stay as-is, remuxing many h264 cases, and have the user edit the profile where it is causing them grief.
The first option loads up CPU usage, and will not be welcomed by lower powered devices (eg. NAS's). The second option is causing more problems as widescreen (>16:9) video is becoming the norm. My two cents worth - I'm probably leaning toward the first option (transcode all H264 video even when remuxing would suffice) but think more discussion on this is needed.

There is a third option (and not one I necessarily favour) but it requires coding in Serviio - have a matches option for aspect ratio - eg.

<Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" vAspectGreaterThan="16:9" />

This would allow these video files to be intercepted early in the profile and the video transcoded, and later in the profile have the standard remuxing commands to pick up the rest. Once again, more discussion as I fear this would make the profiles very complex (you may end up duplicating a lot of commands, one for the >16:9 case and one for the 16:9 and below).

Re: aspect ratio

I had never noticed before, but my Panasonic ST30 is doing the same thing. Guess I hadn't been watching the right movies! :lol:

This is using the ST30 built-in DLNA player. When I watch the same video on the same TV using my Roku, the aspect ratio is correct. I'm sure the Roku is transcoding the file, so that's probably the difference. The movie is Star Wars IV, ripped with MakeMKV, then reprocessed with Handbrake to change the default audio track to standard DTS instead of DTS-HD Master Audio.

EDIT: Here's MediaInfo for the one I was watching:
