Panasonic 65GT50 Sound Problem

HI guys - I am streaming movies to my Panasonic 65GT50. The video is fine, however the sound is not great using the TV speakers. I have connected the digital audio output to my A/V receiver using a digital audio cable and digital audio to RCA converter. When I connect to Serviio and browse through my movies, the preview starts playing the movie and the sound works fine on my receiver. When I select the movie to play, the video is fine, however I do not get any sound.

I am using "Panasonic Viera G/GT/DT/UT/VT (2011/2012)" profile, and I tried changing the </Audio> transcoding from lpcm to ac3 and mp3 and still get no sound. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated in how to resolve this issue.

Thank you.

Re: Panasonic 65GT50 Sound Problem

maybe try swapping out the digital audio cable for just a set of RCA's using the analog outputs on your TV to your receiver just to see if it's an issue with the digital output?

Re: Panasonic 65GT50 Sound Problem

My tv does not have analog (RCA) audio output. I changed to the generic profile and now sound works on some of the movies that didn't work previously, but still see the same effect on other movies. Not sure why this is happening. I thought the idea of transcoding was to change the audio format if the device was not capable of processing the format. I guess I have need to spend more time trying to figure this out.

Re: Panasonic 65GT50 Sound Problem

the generic profile does not transcode anything.. so the formats that are playing under that profile are natively supported by your device. for the ones that aren't playing under the generic profile, you will need to dig into the formats and adjust your transocding profile accordingly.

do an ffmpeg -i in the file to dump the details of what video and audio codecs are being used.

Re: Panasonic 65GT50 Sound Problem

I am still having problems with getting an optimum profile for my Pansonic 65GT50. Here are the formats that the TV supports based on the specifications.

AVCHD 3D / Progressive, SD-VIDEO / MotionJPEG
(Lumix) / MKV / MP4 / MOV / M4v / FLV / 3GPP / VRO
/ VOB / TS / PS, MP3 / AAC / FLAC, JPEG / MPO

I started with the Panasonic Viera G/GT/DT/UT/VT (2011/2012) profile, however I assume I should switch to Panasonic Viera E/S/ST/VT (2011) since this profile uses the updated (2011/2012) profile and transcodes AVI files which is needed.

Since the TV does not support AC3, I went through the video section and changed all the AC3 references to MP3, however things are still not optimal as some video files are freezing and still not getting video on all files.

Any suggestions on how I can obtain an optimized profile? Here is a file that does not play audio, however the AC3 format should be transcoded to MP3 based on my profile attached.

Re: Panasonic 65GT50 Sound Problem

I am still having setup issues. My mkv files that have DTS audio are fine. The mkv files that have AC3 audio are causing me problems. I have tried changing profiles.xml to to transcode AC3 audio to AAC, DCA or DTS, however these formats do not seem to allow transcoding. Is there something else that needs to be added to allow AC3 audio to be transformed to one of these formats?

Re: Panasonic 65GT50 Sound Problem

I think you are missing the bit where it matches the source mkv file with AC3 audio... try the following (in the Viera 2011/12 profile):

  Code:
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="mp3" forceInheritance="true">
    <!-- Some models support DTS natively, so the folowing line can be removed for those -->
   <Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="dca" /> <!-- ST50 supports DTS, remove this line -->
   <Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="flac" />
   <Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="vorbis" />
   <Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="truehd" />
   <Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="ac3" />  <!-- ADD THIS LINE -->
   <Matches container="mp4" vCodec="h264" aCodec="lpcm" />
   <Matches container="mp4" vCodec="h264" aCodec="aac" />
   <Matches container="mp4" vCodec="h264" aCodec="ac3" />  <!-- ADD THIS LINE -->
   <Matches container="3gp" vCodec="h264" />
</Video>

ps. you may also be able to remove the other two mp4 lines in the above (ie. not the one I added), as it looks like your TV supports this natively.

Re: Panasonic 65GT50 Sound Problem

Won't that transcode to mp3 audio format that will lose audio channels and only leave stereo format that has only 2 channels of audio? Left and right?

Re: Panasonic 65GT50 Sound Problem

Errr... yes, but that what I thought you were trying to achieve :? .

As I understand it your TV wont support AC3, hence you need to transcode the audio to another format (you had already written the transcoding bit, I was just giving you the bits to match where the source file uses AC3 audio). You could try setting the targetACodec="aac" now that you are matching the files containing ac3, but I've never done that so not sure whether it will transcode all the channels (or whether the m2ts container will support it). I'll try it later tonight.

Re: Panasonic 65GT50 Sound Problem

I had the ac3 format match in my profile previously and this did not help.

Re: Panasonic 65GT50 Sound Problem

Did you find a solution? I have the same problem. The only way i have sound is to disable my home theater sound and to enable sound from tv directly. But it works correctly with the preview on menus.

P.S. Sorry for my english.
