Video Streaming

I am new to audio/video streaming. Before buying a NAS to stream music and video, I carried out a trial.
My system:
1. Panasonic BDT110 Blu Ray Player, Onkyo TX-NR609 and Medion laptop-Intel Pentium Dual CPU T2390 @ 1.86GHz, RAM 3.00 GB 32Bit OS.
2. Files on laptop C drive: FLAC & MP3 audio tracks and MP4, mpg and MTS HD video files. Serviio 0.6.2 installed.
3. Laptop connected by ethernet cable to VirginMedia Superhub-30MB broadband. BDT110 & TX-NR609 connected to TP-Link TL-PA211-200Mbps plugged into household supply sockets near to the two units.
Audio plays fine on TX-NR609, except some halting or skipping heard at times. BDT110 plays mpg but it is very jerky and unacceptible. It does not play MP4 or MTS video.

Could someone take me through step by step what I am doing wrong or which equipment is responsible for the audio drop-outs and video jerkiness and not playing MP4 & MTS.

i shall be much obliged.
