Serviio with Panasonic VIERA TC-P65VT50

First time posting out here. Anyway, I've been evaluating the best way to stream digitized movies to my new Panasonic VIERA TC-P65VT50. My setup along with the TV is an Onkyo TX-NR609 and a HP Microserver with Windows Home Server 2011 on it.

Recently, I decided to try out Serviio on my laptop. After downloading it, I was able to configure the settings correctly and then eventually figure out that a new option through DLNA on my television was there. Great! So, I had a ripped movie saved as an mp4 and after selecting it, I was able to play it successfully where before I was getting an error.

There are two things I noticed that I'm not sure about however. The first is that, while the movie played on the TV, I noticed that the picture on the far right was obscured with small wavy lines where things seemed to be stretched. My first guess is that I'm not ripping the DVD the best way for it to be rendered on my TV. So, what do you recommend as far as which DVD ripper, file format and/or any other settings to get a quality movie displayed?

The other thing I noticed was that my laptop CPU usage was over the top. After opening up Resource Monitor, I noticed that there were 2 executables hogging things up. There were 2 copies of fmeg.exe which are somehow associated with Serviio. After stopping those executeables, my laptop breathed a huge sigh of relief and calmed down.

Ultimately, since I do have a HP microserver with WHS 2011, I'd like to install Serviio on it. But, the fmeg.exe issue has me really concerned.

I'll let Zip or someone else address the ffmpeg issue. I have a similar but older Panasonic Plasma TV and it plays perfectly through Serviio. I have found the best type of file for my ripped DVDs and Blu-Rays is MPG. When I have tried MP4, I always seemed to have at least one video that would not play.

I run Serviio on a Windows 2003 server, 64 bit with 3 gig of ram and an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ CPU connected to a gigabit network. Old hardware, but it works fine. I am currently watching a movie (You Only Live Twice) that I ripped to MPEG. It appears the TV plays it without transcoding, as ffmepeg isn't running and my CPU is between 1-6%. In the Serviio Console, I am using the "Panasonic Viera E/S/ST/VT (2011)" renderer profile. I've tried the other Panasonic profiles and this has worked the best.

Play around with the profiles and I'm sure you'll find one that works the best. No freeware and few paid products can equal, let alone perform better than Serviio.

I have the VT50 also. It's a fantastic TV and it's packed with a lot of processing power.
You have no need for transcoding in Serviio. Disable this all in all and let the TV do the work. You do want a cabled connection to it though.

What amazed me the most was how it handles MKV containers. You can switch Audio, Subtitle and Video streams using the Option button on the remote control.
