Install Serviio at QNAP TS-439 Pro II Turbo NAS

Hello everyone.
I have read the topic about the installing a Serviio at WD My Book World and I am in similar situation.

I'm also amazed by this media server. It's great, simple, good, easy ,.... and works great (installed on my Windows XP based laptop) with my Oppo BDP-83.
My NAS - QNAP TS-439 Pro (Intel CPU) has preinstalled Twonky Media Server. But during a playback of mkv movie files from Twonky, my Oppo BDP-83 after few minutes stops the playback and skips to the folloowing media file. :( Streaming from Serviio (at laptop) is absolutely correct and reliable.

That is reason why I would like to install Serviio to my Linux based QNAP TS-439. I tried it following your instructions but I was unsuccesful. (Sorry, I am an analphabet in Linux ...). I do not know which Linux distribution is installed on NAS.
QNAP TS-439 is able to install a "qpkg" packages through a web-based administration of NAS.
Is it possible to find somewhere the "qpkg" release of linux install package?

Can somebody help me, please?

Thanks

Peter

Re: Install Serviio at QNAP TS-439 Pro II Turbo NAS

I did a quick search and found this: http://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?p=1 ... 7d0f75dd27

You will need to:

1. install Java 6 on it via the link above
2. open ssh connection to the NAS (do a search for how to do it, you can probably use Putty terminal)
3. see if there is ffmpeg intalled, if not install it (not sure how, try google)
4. upload Seviio.tar.gz, unzip it in the terminal and follow Linux instructions on how to run it

Hope this helps

Re: Install Serviio at QNAP TS-439 Pro II Turbo NAS

Hi,

I asked my friends for help.
Result:
1.Java is running.
2. OK
3.FFmpeg is installed
4.Serviio is installed and running on my Linux NAS server
My Oppo BDP-83 can see the Serviio on NAS :-) ... but without the shared files.

Question is: How can I add a folders for sharing in linux release (Windows release is user friendly and easy)?
I did not find the possibitily in profile.xml and log4j.xml files.
Other people have the same problem on Linux, as I saw in other topics on this forum.

OR: How can I run Serviio console on WinXP laptop and connect it to Serviio on linux NAS server?

Re: Install Serviio at QNAP TS-439 Pro II Turbo NAS

well done.

You have to conect to your Linux Serviio server from a remote console. So you have to install Serviio on another (e.g. Windows) machine, disable the Windows service there (as you will only need the console from that installation) and follow this:

http://www.serviio.org/component/content/article/21#q2

and if you have problems here:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=142&start=10#p873

There is an outstanding bug still that will not enable you to actually add any folder that doesn't exist on the local (Windows) machine. This is fixed in 0.4. PM me to participate in the beta testing and I'll send you the beta when it's available.

Re: Install Serviio at QNAP TS-439 Pro II Turbo NAS

Thanks for information.

I tried to connect the Serviio console running on Windows machine to the Seviio server running on Linux NAS according to yor advice...I was unsuccessful (sorry I am the linux analphabet :-) ).
I added the IP adress of NAS to the hosts file, but I did not understand where I have to change the right paths in Serviio.Console.exe vmoptions and Seviio.Console.bat on windows machine and in serviio-console.sh file on linux server.
If I was successful it does not solve the problem of adding any folder on server...

My result is that I must wait for 0.4 release.
Send me the 0.4 beta please. I'll try test it.

Re: Install Serviio at QNAP TS-439 Pro II Turbo NAS

You have to add

-Dserviio.corbaHost=<ip_address_of_your_NAS>

to Serviio.Console.exe.vmoptions and retart the Console. That should be enough. If it doesn't start post logs from both machines (debug on).

Re: Install Serviio at QNAP TS-439 Pro II Turbo NAS

Yesss, it is running. Thanks. I can add paths in Serviio Console running on the Windows machine and I can see these paths on Oppo BDP-83 from Serviio service runnig on linux NAS.
But I am not able to see any multimedia files on linux server in added paths. I tried to add various ways of absolute and relative paths in Serviio console.
I think, it is the issue you wrote on Friday.

Hi,
I have installed Serviio release 0.4 on linux server and also on WinXP laptop.
I added the line -Dserviio.corbaHost=<real_ip_address_of_my_NAS> into Serviio.Console.exe.vmoptions file.
But, after restart, Console is writing the Error message: "Cannot connest to Serviio server, it does not seem to be running. Exiting...". But the Serviio is running on my linux NAS (I can see it on my home network).
Have you any ideas for me, please?
I do not understand it, the release 0.3.1 was running correctly.

In serviio.log file are following lines:

Windows (Console)<->Windows(Service) is OK.
Windows (Console)<->Linux (Service) is NOT ok. I started the ServiioService on Linux first. When I want to start the Console on Windows, the reported error message occures.

The line "-Dserviio.corbaHost=192.168.2.9" in Serviio.Console.exe.vmoptions file (on Windows machine) is OK?
I saw the line: "-Xmx384m" in "Serviio.Service.exe.vmoptions" file. It is something new in comparison with 0.3.1 release. Is it OK?

Is there necessary to change similar parameters on linux machine?

Ok, I found a bug in 0.4. Will be fixed in 0.4.1. You might try to get around it by adding these to your server .sh amont other "-D" parameters:

  Code:
-Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialPort=23423 -Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialHost=<your_server_ip>

I added the line into serviio.sh file.
My linux NAS responses:
-Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialPort=23423: command not found

In techspecs I found that the QNAP TS-439 Pro II has the operating system - Embedded Linux

Re: Install Serviio at QNAP TS-439 Pro II Turbo NAS

I have added the parameters into serviio.sh file on linux server.
  Code:
# Setup Serviio specific properties
JAVA_OPTS="-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -Dderby.system.home=$SERVIIO_HOME/library -Dserviio.home=$SERVIIO_HOME -Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialPort=23423 -Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialHost=192.168.2.9"

Serviio service is running on linux server again. The line "-Dserviio.corbaHost=192.168.2.9" also exists in Serviio.Console.exe.vmoptions file on Windows machine.
But .. the Console on Windows machine is still unable to connect the Serviio server, the error message is the same: "Cannot connest to Serviio server, it does not seem to be running. Exiting..."

Re: Install Serviio at QNAP TS-439 Pro II Turbo NAS

Hi, I have bought new Mac with OS10.6. The OSX release was downloaded and unpacked.
I opened the Servio-Console.app and changed the Info.plist file, with
<key>-Dserviio.corbaHost</key>
<string>192.168.2.9</string>
as follows:
  Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?>
<plist version="1.0">
  <dict>
    <key>CFBundleName</key>
    <string>Serviio-Console</string>
    <key>CFBundleShortVersionString</key>
    <string>0.4.1</string>
    <key>CFBundleGetInfoString</key>
    <string>0.4.1 (c) 2009 - 2010 Petr Nejedly</string>
    <key>CFBundleAllowMixedLocalizations</key>
    <string>false</string>
    <key>CFBundleInfoDictionaryVersion</key>
    <string>6.0</string>
    <key>CFBundleExecutable</key>
    <string>JavaApplicationStub</string>
    <key>CFBundleDevelopmentRegion</key>
    <string>English</string>
    <key>CFBundlePackageType</key>
    <string>APPL</string>
    <key>CFBundleSignature</key>
    <string>????</string>
    <key>CFBundleIconFile</key>
    <string>serviio.icns</string>
    <key>Java</key>
    <dict>
      <key>MainClass</key>
      <string>org.serviio.console.ServiioConsole</string>
      <key>JVMVersion</key>
      <string>1.6+</string>
      <key>ClassPath</key>
      <array>
        <string>$JAVAROOT/jul-to-slf4j.jar</string>
        <string>$JAVAROOT/log4j.jar</string>
        <string>$JAVAROOT/serviio-client.jar</string>
        <string>$JAVAROOT/serviio.jar</string>
        <string>$JAVAROOT/slf4j-api.jar</string>
        <string>$JAVAROOT/slf4j-log4j12.jar</string>
        <string>$JAVAROOT/config</string>
      </array>
      <key>Properties</key>
      <dict>
        <key>serviio.home</key>
        <string>$JAVAROOT</string>
        <key>java.net.preferIPv4Stack</key>
        <string>true</string>
        <key>-Dserviio.corbaHost</key>
        <string>192.168.2.9</string>
      </dict>
    </dict>
  </dict>
</plist>

But I am unable to connect the console running on OSX with Serviio service running on Linux machine. The error message occures: "Cannot connect to Serviio server, it does not seem to be running . Exiting..." (i.e. it is similar like my previous problem with console on winXP and service on linux machine).

Was my change of Info.plist correct or I made something wrong?
Thanks for response in advance.

P.

Re: Install Serviio at QNAP TS-439 Pro II Turbo NAS

Hi,

I have upgraded the 0.4.2 release.
In my remote console on Mac OSX machine I changed in Info.plist file as follows:
  Code:
<key>serviio.remoteHost</key>
<string>XXX.XXX.X.X</string>

but the Console is still unable to connect the Serviio server, the error message is the same: "Cannot connest to Serviio server, it does not seem to be running. Exiting..."

I changed also the serviio.sh file on my Linux server for Serviio service, as follows:
  Code:
# Setup Serviio specific properties
JAVA_OPTS="-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -Dderby.system.home=$SERVIIO_HOME/library -Dserviio.home=$SERVIIO_HOME -Dserviio.remoteHost=XXX.XXX.X.X"

But the result is the same.

Have you any advice for me, please?
