Re: Serviio with Freenas

Sure Perry,

My FreeNAS server has the IP adress: 192.168.0.188

The file is attached.

Before downloading it you should back up the serviio.sh that was in the package using the mv command.
#mv serviio.sh serviio.shoriginal

Then download "my" serviio.sh and put it in the same directory.
I had to change the name to serviio.txt to be able to upload it. Just change the name to serviio.sh using the mv command
#mv serviio.txt serviio.sh
After this you have to edit it using vi and change the ip adress in the end of the file to your FreeNAS IP adress.
-Dserviio.remoteHost=192.168.0.x
The x should be changed to your own FreeNAS IP adress. (Mine is x=188)

Good luck

Re: Serviio with Freenas

Perry,
Did you manage to get the console running?
You need to tell Serviio to find the files first...

What was the error before? How did you solve it?

Re: Serviio with Freenas

Good you solved it. Was the missing .com something you erased by mistake, or was it something that is needed only on your system.
I don't understand what you mean...

I would first like serviio to run as daemon. Now I start it in a putty session but I dont want to need to have a pc running with an open putty window.
I also need to figure out how to start the servio.sh (demon version) during boot so that it starts automaticly if I need to restart the FreeNAS.

Maybe you have solved this already?

Re: Serviio with Freenas

dboy

it was an incomplete setting under the first menu of Freenas...where you setting the domain name, if you set only name without ".com" the serviio server soutdown without reason.....

About the secon question it is very simple:

refer to tos topic:

http://www.homemultimedianetwork.com/Gu ... reeNAS.php

but the command will be: sh /directory_serviio/serviio.sh

and set the command when the nas have done the completely boot (postinit)

Re: Serviio with Freenas

Perry,
Ok. Thanks. It works.

Regarding the WebUI I think it is wise to wait for the 0.5.2 upgrade of the WebUI before going that path.

There are no API changes between 0.5.1 and 0.5.2 so 0.5.1 webUI will work.

Re: Serviio with Freenas

Perry, Zip,

There is a guide for Ubuntu here:

http://forum.serviio.org/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1310&start=20#p9421

Should be possible to work from.

Another question is why we need it?
Is it not enough to use the console application to control the FreeNAS installed serviio?

What is the additional benefit?

The only thing i can see would be that you don't need to install the console application on all your computers at home, but I think it is probably easier to install that then to maintain the WebUI.

Please enlighten me!

for me it is only for study...and because in this manner we do not need to install the client software, but using only the Web interface....

Re: Serviio with Freenas

There is now 0.5.2 version: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1310&start=40#p11911
You can use either or both at the same time, up to you. Depends on your preferred method of managing Serviio. Obviously the web UI is not managed by me so I can't give you any support, on the other hand it's open source so anybody can fix possible bugs / add features.

Re: Serviio with Freenas

Hello! This is a great discussion and I appreciate all the information you have provided. However, I am completely new to Linux programing, as FreeNAS is my first experience. I have FreeNAS running smoothly and am comfortable with SSH via putty, but some of the things discussed are a bit over my head. I saw a mention of a How To guide for newbies... Any progress? Thanks again for your contribution!

Re: Serviio with Freenas

zlt,
Sorry, i kind of wrote I should do that but when retracking I kind of thought all info is in this thread.

I think I might save all info in a log after upgrading to FreeNAS 0.8 and reinstalling Serviio, but I don´t consider it stable enough yet.

I suggest you dive into it and ask questions and we will try to help out...

Good luck!

Re: Serviio with Freenas

dboy,

Ok, I've been able to add diablo, xtrans, xproto, and xextproto by following the instructions here: http://sourceforge.net/apps/phpbb/freenas/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1639 however, I'm getting stuck at javavmwrapper.

First time I ran this, I got "checkvms: file not found", so I did the trick at the end of the above mentioned post - creating a link from /mnt/Storage/app/java/bin/javavm to /usr/local/bin/javavm. However, I had to create the javavm directories manually, because as you can see, pkg_add deletes them when it hits this error. After creating those directories manually and then creating the link
  Code:
# ln -s /mnt/Storage/app/java/bin/javavm /usr/local/bin/javavm
I get the above error "Permission Denied". I've set both dir permissions to 777, so I'm not sure what else to do.

3 days ago I had never used a unix based system in my life, so your guidance is much appreciated!
