Serviio 1.6 - Synology NAS install does not work! - SOLVED!

Sorry guys, there is clearly something wrong with this version.

I made the upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6 and the mandatory Java update too

Nothing works.

According to the Synology package the java has a hotspot & serviio shows as running.

Installed the PC console (mac version) and attempted to set the library

Problem 1) The console does not easily identify network shares ... you need to know the syntax to get to your NAS - OK if your a Linux / windows command line genius, not so for us mortals

Problem 2) When you do eventually find the correct syntax for linking to your drive SMB:/DISKSTATION/Films/ (is this correct? who knows!!) and save it, nothing happens

Problem 3) When you go back to check your library, Is shows a warning triangle and says the drive / location is not available - the location syntax has changed to /smb:/DISKSTATION/Fims/

Rolled back to V 7 java - no difference ... tried to fins a working Serviio V1.5 with no success

Tried installing the synology V6 & V7 Java releases , no change

Following advice from the forum, i tried again on a windows machine ...

V1.6 does not work with XP !

Using a Win 7 machine, i installed the PC package without the server ... big mistake... error the server does not seem to be running and a white box

uninstalled and reinstalled with the server and i get the program to start .... specify my NAS location using the syntax... and it gives the same error drive / location not ready / available

So windows console doesn't work & Mac console dosent work .

Is it the NAS package or the NAS Java?

So where do i go from here??

1.4 & 1.5 worked ... 1.6 clearly dosent.

Can we have an archive we can use to allow us to get somthing up and running .

Re: Serviio 1.6 - Synology NAS install does not work!

Hi,

if you install it on NAS, you should just add a path that is local to the NAS (not sure how it's on the Synology, but perhaps something like /share/xxx or wherever the folders are), not a SMB path. Does the Browse.. button not work?

If you install only the console on WIn, obviously it won't find the server - you didn't install it on the machine.

Re: Serviio 1.6 - Synology NAS install does not work!

If i recall, under 1.4/5, there was the specific option instruction

About not installing the server , only the console if the the server was installed on a NAS

there was then the edit of the config.mops?? file that would point to the NAS IP

i will get some screen shots of what i get under the synology set up

The remote console now works differently: http://serviio.org/component/content/article?id=21#q2

OK .. pictures

Error for folder location this is from the NAS Serviio

Image

This is the folder structure from the NAS Serviio

Image

The volume 1- is the USB HDD attached to my desktop mac not the NAS

It does not see or seem to allow access to the NAS folders ..

using the format 192.168.1.250/Films as the location does not work either

Re: Serviio 1.6 - Synology NAS install does not work! - SOL

Solved :)

I uninstalled Serviio on both Mac & NAS

Unplugged the external HD from the MAC

Reinstalled Serviio & Java 8 on the NAS, and ran it from there....

Set up the file locations as before which still showed an error

Using the Wiki, it said the file location on the NAS is located in Volume 1/

Sure enough using the browse function Vol 1 was there, and i could see my media folders below that.

I set the file paths to this and saved and refreshed. the original file path's still showed errors, buth the Vol1 path showed as OK

Deleted the errored path and went back into the home page,

Files were showing in the display ...

Sparked up the Xbox and did a server search... serviio / disk station found that's an improvement

All sub-folders found Even Better

All files within the folder played :)

I then reconnected the External HDD to the NAS ,,, no change files on the server seen & still play

I will have a look and see if loading the program on the MAC gives any issues

Only thing i have noticed, is that some of the films now seem a bit pixelated... but i cant say if this is due to the way there are streamed now

This is where you had gone wrong. On a Synology the local internal drive is /volume1. The instructions on the download page for the Serviio 1.6 Synology package mention this. I rewrote them for version 1.6 since quite a lot had changed, so it's always worth re-checking that page if in doubt in future. A USB drive connected to a Synology is usually mounted under /volumeUSB1/usbshare, which appears in DSM as just "usbshare1".
