Qnap 239 Pro II (intel) 32bit...missing hlsjs file error

Unable to play anything through mediabrowser...same "hlsjs: Video file not found" error.

My qnap is 32bit, not 64 :( (Qnap ts-239 pro II)
JRE 8.144.0 installed through the app store.
qnap firmware version 4.2.6

Also tried installing 64bit intel...wrong platform.

Have been reading the forums, and found references to the upcoming v 1.9.1 update.
Will this update also fix my 32bit Serviio?

Re: Qnap 239 Pro II (intel) 32bit...missing hlsjs file error

Performed some additional testing, and was surprised to get one video to play.
Qnap CPU load was 90+ during video testing.

I encountered the same missing hlsjs file error for other video files I tested.

keeping fingers crossed that the v 1.9.1 update will also be available for 32bit environments :)

Re: Qnap 239 Pro II (intel) 32bit...missing hlsjs file error

I can't address anything specific about NAS installations, so someone else would have to chime in for that. But the CPU load means the file was most likely being transcoded, as Serviio believed your player could not play it otherwise. When using MediaBrowser, I believe that almost all videos are transcoded. Many NAS devices really don't have enough processing power to support transcoding.

Do you know what codecs are used in the videos that both play and won't play? What container are they in?

The Following mp4 file works...not all mp4 file formats work, so it's hit and miss.

Does the -i option provide enough information about the video file?

My qnap ts 239 pro II has the following specs:
Processor 1.66GHz Intel Atom D410 CPU (Single-Core)
RAM 1GB DDR2
Memory 512MB Flash Memory (DOM)

Approximately 45% of memory is consumed during video viewing/streaming.

I utilized the Twonky server before with out any issues.
Seems Twonky is no longer an option on QNAP (Due to Licensing issues).
The updated QNAP firmware may have created additional overhead not apparent in earlier versions (I've read in qnap forums).

An interesting test is pausing the video through mediabrowser.
The cpu remains at pegged at 99%.

Even videos that fail, generate the high cpu load.
I have to cycle Serviio to reduce the load back to normal...have never left it long enough, to see if the load would come down on it's own.

The missing hlsjs error was referenced in other 64bit environments, as well as the v 1.9.1 fix.
I'm hoping this fix also applies to my 32bit env.

Re: Qnap 239 Pro II (intel) 32bit...missing hlsjs file error

I would expect the 1.9.1 fix to work with 32 as well as 64 bit.

Pausing playback does not stop transcoding, so that would have no impact on the CPU utilization. Same for a failed playback, if transcoding itself was successfully started. I've seen the same thing with my Samsung TV with it not displaying transcoded video but the transcoding process continues. They really funny thing is if I let it finish transcoding then try to play the transcoded file (it's in the Serviio temp folder) it plays fine. But that's a Samsung issue, and nothing Serviio can do about that. Since you're using MediaBrowser, it should be fixable.

In your ffmpeg posts (yes, the -i function provides all necessary info) I see almost identical video and audio codecs, so you would expect them both to play. Curious if you can play them both via another means, such as a media player on a computer that can access your NAS. It's possible that the file is corrupted. There is an ffmpeg command to just copy the file into another container. I think this will work:
  Code:
ffmpeg -i video.mp4 new_video_name.mp4

It won't change anything within the file, just copy it into a new file. Sometimes that will clear up an issue with the container that is blocking playback.

Re: Qnap 239 Pro II (intel) 32bit...missing hlsjs file error

I'm currently back home...won't be back in the Vacation home for a few weeks.
I will make sure to try the ffmpeg copy command, and perform additional testing when I get back.

At home, we have another Qnap box which works perfectly fine.
Model TS-569L

Intel Atom™ 2.13 GHz Dual-core Processor
Flash Memory 512MB DOM
System Memory 3GB
Qnap firmware 4.3.3.0262
JRE 8.131.1

Serviio v 1.9 64bit

In addition to different hardware/software specs, the OS is 64bit.

Due to how well the home setup works, I chose to install Serviio on the 32bit qnap at the vacation home.

I started to review the Qnap and Serviio configurations and found a difference with the Transcoding option. It is NOT selected here on the 64bit home box.

I remember the 32bit problematic system Does have it Selected.

Since we obviously don't need Qnap to perform transcoding duties, I will also try turning this off.

Keep you posted :)

Re: Qnap 239 Pro II (intel) 32bit...missing hlsjs file error

I've had a chance to perform additional testing on the qnap 32bit temperamental serviio install.
I found that once I receive the hlsjs error, I can simply close the mediabrowser window and repeat the same movie selection.
The second time I select the same video, I am able to play the movie without the hlsjs error.
I've tested this on a few video files with consistent results, video usually plays successfully the 2nd time you select...occasionally a 3rd time is needed.

I'm still getting high cpu load on the qnap, and noticing occasional pausing during video playback which doesn't occur on the 64bit system I have at home.
Not sure if this is due to the hardware specs of the 32bit env...or deferences between 64 and 32bit serviio.

Hopefully the next Serviio update (v1.9.1) will address this hlsjs error, so we don't have to close and reselect each time it's encountered.
