Serviio on Synology STOPPED since last DSM Update

PostPosted: Tue Jul 24, 2018 9:55 pm

Hello,

I'm using Serviio Pro long time on Syno DS916 but since todays Syno DSM Update Serviio permanently is "stopped". Clicking "Run" does not help.

Servvio version installed: 1.9.2-0035
DSM version: 6.2-23739 Update 2
Java version: 1.8.0_171-0047

Tried to reinstall Serviio without any change. Is this an actual problem?

Thanks a lot!!

Does nobody has an idea? Could I activate a logging or anything else to post here for some details to be analyzed?

I am having the same issue with my DS916+...just stopped working. Synology seems to think it is because I have 2 LAN connections, but I have had those since day 1, with no issues.

Same issue on DS1817+
When I try to manually run serviio from DSM package center, the button option changes from Run to install then back to run but nothing happens.
the Log only shows:
  Code:
2018-07-27 22:51:57,000 Starting Serviio
Unrecognized option: --add-modules
Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.

This happened immediately after DSM 6.2-23739 Update 2.

I have reinstalled Serviio & latest official Java, No change.
Something in the last DSM update has broke the serviio install.
Hope someone can help. I had just updated to Pro version.
One that note, I am surprised to see so few posts on this topic, is it only the upgraded Pro version that is affected?

Maybe the user "patters" can help. But he hasn't been online for about 2 weeks, probably on a holiday.

See: https://pcloadletter.co.uk/2012/01/25/s ... o-package/

Post author is patters.

I have already posted this issue in his support thread: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3311&start=320

My guess is that an update of the Java SE Embedded 8 packet is needed, to support the latest version 181. The current packet installs 171...

I went through the issue with Synology support.
Not exactly the most helpful reply but at lease we know that this is Serviio's problem to solve.

  Code:
Hi

Thank you for contacting Synology Support.

Unfortunately Serviio is not an officially supported package for Synology and is not available on the default Package Center. As such we are unable to provide assistance with installing this application, for this particular issue, we can only recommend to contact the developer of the package to request assistance with installation, or to submit the application to Synology for addition to the Package Center to be officially available for our devices.

Ack, got a similar answer to my ticket.

I wonder, is there an official Synology NAS support by Serviio?

I received the exact same message. You would think if they developed the app for synology, they would support it. Is there any other way to get Serviio reps to respond...other than this forum?

The Serviio author does not create the versions for NAS devices. Third parties provide the versions for the NAS devices. I don't know who was responsible for the Synology version, but I do know user Patters provides some NAS support.

Yes, this forum is the only place for user support. Zip is the (only) developer, but as I said he isn't responsible for the NAS versions.

Thank you zip!! If we can do anything to help you, patters or anybody else to solve the problem, let us know. E.g. logfiles, see my other thread http://forum.serviio.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=24651&p=118378#p118378 - I would provide logs for research but don't know where to get them from telnet console...

This is strange because my DS214play is running that same DSM version with no problems. The issue for you guys seems to be that the Java executable will no longer start. I wonder if this is a 32/64bit issue – perhaps the Synology developers have made a change that is preventing the 32bit Java Embedded from running. The CPU in my NAS is unique in that it’s a 32bit only chip (so maybe that’s why it still works), whereas pretty much every single other Intel Syno runs a 64bit build of Linux. I will update the Java package with a 32/64bit selection for Intel x64 capable CPUs. Let’s see if that fixes it.

If it's Java that won't start, even with the Synology-published Java package, then it should be supported by Synology since that's a first party package. Test this by removing my Java Embedded package, installing the Syno one and then running "java -version" in an SSH session. If it fails to run then that is most certainly something Synology should be supporting.
