Synolgy 211j and Sony BX37

Hello to all at the forum,

After a disappointing discovery that my Sony BDP BX37 can only stream mpeg2 via DLNA with my 211j I discovered this site. My question before I dive in and try to install all this is:
1. will I be able to stream .m2ts(home videos) from my NAS thru the BX37 without reformating all file
2. can I install serviio on the NAS and have it work without a PC

Thank you for the help. Look forward to your suggestions.

yes, .m2ts file could be delivered in native format from your NAS with serviio to your BX37 renderer.

Thank you very much for your reply. OMG, so much to read. :( with work, 3 toddlers running around I'll be lucky if I can even start. BTW, my 211j already has some stuff on there, so am I to assume that when I start installing this stuff my data with get erased? Or will I be able to keep it there without any problems?

Anyone can confirm the non-erasing of data if installing Serviio?

How's everything over there in the UK?

problematic at the moment with the riot i live and work very close to them :(

i see no reason for the serviio install to erase any data from your NAS,( its a program not an OS ) but i would always recommend doing a backup before starting any project liek this :)

Re: Synolgy 211j and Sony BX37

I can confirm you can usually reinstall the DSM software from scratch preserving your data if you mess something up. However it might not always be possible. Apparently the installer does warn you with some red text if it is about to trash everything.

However installing Serviio isn't a destructive process if followed correctly.
