busterdan wrote:I've now managed to get as far as the FFMPEG installation....

Basically this failed, I was mainly using Double T's instructions but have since started using JazzMan's guide...

I've updated the sources file with the entries from Double T's post viewtopic.php?p=53013#p53013 and then followed his instructions again, but all I get now are these lib errors.

MyBookLive:/usr/local/serviio/serviio-0.6.2/bin# apt-get install ffmpeg
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
ffmpeg: Depends: libavcodec52 (>= 5:0.7.13) but 4:0.5.1-3 is to be installed
Depends: libavdevice52 (>= 5:0.7.13) but 4:0.5.1-3 is to be installed
Depends: libavfilter1 (>= 5:0.7.13) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libavformat52 (>= 5:0.7.13) but 4:0.5.1-3 is to be installed
Depends: libavutil50 (>= 5:0.7.13) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libpostproc51 (>= 5:0.7.13) but 4:0.5.1-3 is to be installed
Depends: libswscale0 (>= 5:0.7.13) but 4:0.5.1-3 is to be installed
libc6-ppc64: Depends: libc6 (= 2.11.3-4) but 2.11.2-2 is to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

Coming out of retirement, tried to check on updating my ffmpeg and broke it then started to get the above errors. I figured it out.

Solution
change the reference of this line in the file /etc/apt/sources.list
  Code:
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org stable main

to this
  Code:
deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org oldstable main

They changed their domain name recently, plus the version of FFMPEG on stable I'm guessing is incompatible with our version of Debian. Going to OldStable has a compatible version. Good luck.

Decided to give it another try... now stuck on the Java install again (can't remember how I got around this before)....

/$ apt-get install openjdk-6-jdk

You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:

Re: Serviio server on WD My Book Live

what does your /etc/apt/sources.list look like? I think this might be where the issue is.

Then run apt-get update. Then can you run the following commands and share the results, might give another indicator.

apt-cache policy aptitude

and

apt-cache policy aptitude-common

and

apt-cache policy openjdk-6-jdk

Yeah, but I had only removed ffmpeg in an attempt to upgrade to see if it would resolve a video stuttering issue, didn't have to go through the full install instructions.

Once I got it up and running a year and a half ago, it's something I didn't want to touch with all of my original issues(reinstalled at least 3 times, bricked my device once, etc), skipping firmware updates, even hesitant on trying the new versions of serviio. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. While it doesn't play all of the files I find, I usually can get alternate versions that work.

Re: Serviio server on WD My Book Live

Yeah totally agree... I have managed to get it running but I have had to mess about a fair bit... I'm now trying to copy back 900GB of data :( :( :(

Yesterday I started by upgrading the MBL to the latest firmware... I then tried following your guide again... and got stuck at the Java install. I looked around and found a different site with instructions... basically copy over Java to the MBL and then use a chmod command??? (I'm no Linux expert!!)... anyway that didn't work. I tried to update all the dependencies... that didn't work either.. I tried changing the sources list, at this point I didn't really know what I was doing but c'est la vie I thought....

I then found this... http://liushuiblog.appspot.com/2012/04/ ... l-software
And this managed to get Java to install.. :D

But when I checked the Java version it referred to the version I had tried to install early using chmod???

I decided to wipe the whole thing at that point... and go back to the previous firmware by following this... I tried guides 1 and 2 - http://community.wdc.com/t5/My-Book-Liv ... d-p/481588
Anyway they sort of worked although I still have the same Source.list and despite downgrading the MBL still shows the latest firmware in the web GUI.

I then checked the Java version and to my surprise it was showing the correct version... so I then started to follow SL06's guide viewtopic.php?f=14&t=9515

Pretty much everything went fine and I managed to install Serviio 1.2.1, I was then able to connect to the server with ServiiDroid to configure the server, add the licence etc using my phone. I was then able to connect to the Server and play some sample files, music, video and pictures using ServiiGo and also my C Series Samsung TV (not tried Playstation).... everything worked fine, all the Metadata was available.... bit slow but at least it's working.

As I say at the moment I am just in the process of copying all my data back as it was wiped when I did the apparent firmware downgrade, unfortunately the Server seems to have crashed and I can't seem to restart it... a MBL reboot is in order but that will have to wait another 8 hours or so :(

Re: Serviio server on WD My Book Live

I'm still curious to what your source list contains as I think that might be part of the issue you had with java and ffmpeg. As I check the policy command on some of those services on my device, it's showing that the versions I currently have installed are the ones that would be installed if I tried to again.

busterdan wrote:I then checked the Java version and to my surprise it was showing the correct version... so I then started to follow SL06's guide viewtopic.php?f=14&t=9515

Looking at his guide, looks like he's pointing out the differences between the guide I helped with to get to the current version of serviio. Item I see as a potential issue with his comments is the part about skipping ffmpeg. He shows that he has version 0.5.1 of ffmpeg running. Personally I've found that I can not run half of my video library if using that default version. The version that I just got installed the other day is 0.7.x and has a lot more codex integrated. Back when I tried to compile ffmpeg myself to have the different codex I ran out of room, and with additional room I still couldn't get it to work properly so I'm hesitant in trying again.

busterdan wrote:As I say at the moment I am just in the process of copying all my data back as it was wiped when I did the apparent firmware downgrade, unfortunately the Server seems to have crashed and I can't seem to restart it... a MBL reboot is in order but that will have to wait another 8 hours or so :(

Yeah, those downgrade instructions seem to mirror what I had to do when it bricked, and I remember it wiped the public folder as part of restoring the drive to original. Maybe if you had other shares created in the dashboard they would have still been there, not sure?

So I think you may want to get ffmpeg updated if it's not, so if you can run the command
  Code:
ffmpeg
so that we can see the current version, then share the contents of your source.list, as well as the output of
  Code:
apt-cache policy ffmpeg
, we might be able to get to the bottom of everything. apt-cache policy command shows information about the install package indicated, current version installed, the version it wants to install and all version available to the servers you have indicated in the source.list. So we can see if a bad version is coming into play.

Re: Serviio server on WD My Book Live

Thanks for the reply... I'm still copying 10mb/sec argh!!!!

Its about to finish then i am going to move MBL away from my main PC and copy the remain stuff by USB..at 30/mb with a 1000 mob lan laptop.... still so slow though.....

Seems to be a problem though Serviio isn't starting... not properly looked yet though... however after a restart i thought it would auto start?... I'll run those commands when I am up and also post my sources... i might update ffmeg as well as you have

OK... not sure what is going on now... trying to connect with Serviidroid... the connect gets to about 80% then fails with "The connection initially succeeded but not all the data could be loaded"... not sure if it is a bandwidth issue?.. as I'm dumping another 400 gb onto the MBL

ServiioGO... does connect though... very slow however... correction just crashed hmmmmm!! :x

Re: Serviio server on WD My Book Live

first, if you are coping a lot of files, i would probably turn off the updating of the library every x minutes so that it's not trying to process all of the files at the same time as the coping, or just turn off the serviio server until the coping is done.

For comparison, this is what ffmpeg would look like if you can get the higher version installed
  Code:
ffmpeg version 0.7.15, Copyright (c) 2000-2013 the FFmpeg developers
  built on Feb 22 2013 10:33:49 with gcc 4.4.5
  configuration: --enable-libdc1394 --prefix=/usr --extra-cflags='-Wall -g -fPIC -DPIC' --cc='ccache cc' --enable-shared --enable-libmp3lame --enable-gpl --enable-libvorbis --enable-pthreads --enable-libfaac --enable-libxvid --enable-postproc --enable-x11grab --enable-libgsm --enable-libtheora --enable-libopencore-amrnb --enable-libopencore-amrwb --enable-libx264 --enable-libspeex --enable-nonfree --disable-stripping --enable-avfilter --enable-libdirac --disable-decoder=libdirac --enable-libfreetype --enable-libschroedinger --disable-encoder=libschroedinger --enable-version3 --enable-libopenjpeg --enable-libvpx --enable-librtmp --extra-libs=-lgcrypt --disable-altivec --disable-armv5te --disable-armv6 --disable-vis
  libavutil    50. 43. 0 / 50. 43. 0
  libavcodec   52.123. 0 / 52.123. 0
  libavformat  52.111. 0 / 52.111. 0
  libavdevice  52.  5. 0 / 52.  5. 0
  libavfilter   1. 80. 0 /  1. 80. 0
  libswscale    0. 14. 1 /  0. 14. 1
  libpostproc  51.  2. 0 / 51.  2. 0

You do have a lot of servers specified with a lot of options, so that could be where the issue with java and ffmpeg is/was coming from. Mine is very short, I would recommend that you # out most of your servers leaving just the two I have not pounded. The # sign in this case is an indicator to ignore that listing. Save the changes and run "apt-get update" to update the listings, then try installing ffmpeg again.

  Code:
deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main
deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org oldstable main
#deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ sid main
#deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ experimental main

Cheers I will do that in a minute...

My server is running and shares are added but the library doesn't seem to be updating at the moment whereas the other day there were no issues with that....

OK here is the log having updated Sources.list and the running Apt-get update... then attempting to reinstall FFMPEG.

Seems like it has unistalled but there was a problem with the multimedia "old stable " repository... now running the FFMPEG command I get nothing so it looks like it isn't installed now...

Re: Serviio server on WD My Book Live

Bit stuck now... returning to my original sources list.. an apt-get update seems to result in lots of errors, including Key errors... I haven't got a clue where to go from here.. oh well :?

Re: Serviio server on WD My Book Live

For that key error, go back to the short list and run the following

  Code:
apt-get install --allow-unauthenticated deb-multimedia-keyring
apt-get update
apt-get install ffmpeg

if that first line doesn't work, then try this one instead.
apt-get -y --force-yes install deb-multimedia-keyring

let me know which works.

Re: Serviio server on WD My Book Live

Unfortunately neither work...

MyBookLive:~# apt-get -y --force-yes install deb-multimedia-keyring
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libc6-ppc64: Depends: libc6 (= 2.11.3-4) but 2.11.2-2 is to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

That is odd as the debian.org server for squeeze should be pushing 2.11.3-4 for you. Did the first command give the same output as the second one above? Try
apt-cache policy libc6
If the candidate for install is 2.11.3-4 then I would do the apt-get install libc6
then try the keyring commands again.
If 3-4 is not the candidate, provided the output for both apt-cache policy libc6-ppc64 and apt-cache policy libc6

Re: Serviio server on WD My Book Live

Jazzman, thanks for your help on this... I'm no further forward but at least you seem to know what you are doing :D I think part of the problem for me is that I have run so many commands etc... I have no idea what I've actually done..

The Serviio server is running but it wont build the library and obviously FFMPEG isn't installed. I might stick the latest version of Twonky back on... does that use a shared version ffmpeg though (if so then obviously I am going to have issues there).

Anyway here is the latest output..

MyBookLive:~# apt-cache policy libc6
libc6:
Installed: 2.11.3-4
Candidate: 2.11.3-4
Version table:
*** 2.11.3-4 0
500 http://ftp.us.debian.org squeeze/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
MyBookLive:~# apt-get install libc6
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
libc6 is already the newest version.
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libc6: Depends: libc-bin (= 2.11.3-4) but 2.11.2-2 is to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

Re: Serviio server on WD My Book Live

Yeah, I get what you are saying. And I have at least half a clue what's to do, but I just don't get this one. According to what you just posted, it would want to install the proper version of libc, so I don't know why it's trying to install the older version.

For the building the library issue, if you followed the wiki and created a serviio user account, then try running
chown serviio -R /usr/local/serviio
I've found that after running the server additional files are created for the library and the serviio user doesn't have rights to those files. This should resolve. I would stop the server first, run the command, start the server, then do the tail command to watch the server, after it loads the profiles you will hopefully see it start to process all of the files.

Still baffled by the libc6 issue, since you had the candidate already installed, so I don't know why it's trying to install an older version.
So one suggestion, # out deb-multimedia in the source list , apt-get update, and try my first command I provided for the key change a couple posts back. If that doesn't work, then un# deb-multimedia, change oldstable to stable, save and apt-get update, then try that first key command once again(try the second as well if it doesn't work). If that works change the source back to oldstable, apt-get update, then try ffmpeg install.

Second suggestion, first run the apt-cache policy libc-bin. if the candidate is the 3-4, then try
apt-get install libc6-ppc64 libc6 libc-bin
If works, try the key command again.
