Re: HOWTO: Serviio on DNS-320 & DNS-325

Hi, in future would you please also post the serviio package as a standalone download. I don't need the Debian install as I already have it installed and customized on my DNS-320. what I've done so far is unpack your customized squeeze folder and copied serviio to my squeeze install. I ran out of time last night so I still need to install apache and configure it to listen on port 8080. I've installed JRE 6 and ffmpeg. I have sickbeard and couchpotato setup and running perfectly. I had tried to use Minidlna to serve HD video to my PS3 and a Sony BD-S570 but was not completely successful. The PS3, of course, does not decode .mkv files natively but the blu-ray player can. Minidlna does not transcode and I found that while the blu-ray player received the streams they were choppy. Since there was no transcoding involved I assumed that the 800Mhz processor of the DNS-320 was too slow. After I tried PS3 media server on my laptop and streamed HD to both the PS3 and blu-ray player without problems. I was hoping to not need to use a computer in this process and rely solely on the nas. Though from what I've read here it seem like transcoding will still be an issue I want to try serviio anyway. Maybe if it can create a big enough buffer it could actually work as transcoder on the DNS-320. I'm willing to try. Thanks for your work.

Re: HOWTO: Serviio on DNS-320 & DNS-325

Hi, this is for anyone else like me who comes along that already has Debian running on their DNS-320/325. I copied the serviio directory out of the archive linked in this thread to opt directory on my 320. However, I could not get the serviio console to start. I kept getting the error below near the bootom of the log when I started serviio:

ERROR [MediaServer] An unexpected error occured. Ending the application. Message: replacement java.lang.NullPointerException: replacement

It seemed significant so I did a google search on it and it led me to this http://forum.serviio.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4657 thread in the serviio forum. That drew my attention to this error at the top of the log file.

ERROR [ApplicationInstanceManager] dlink-53AD8C: dlink-53AD8C java.net.UnknownHostException: dlink-53AD8C: dlink-53AD8C

Finally, I realized that I had to edit /etc/hosts. In addition to the localhost entry which was already there I added the dns-320's hostname to the file along with the ip address of the nas. After making that change serviio started successfully. look at the /etc/hostname to get the correct hostname to put into /etc/hosts. I'll respond to any requests for help. Next task is to get setup to compile my own packages. BTW, don't install the linux package from the downloads page. It is not compiled for a headless device, though it does seem to be cross compiled and will run on ARM.

I am running Serviio 0.61 on my DLink DNS-325 and would like to upgrade my Serviio to 0.62.

What is the best way of upgrading Serviio? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
The best way is to copy the folder of serviio 0.62 in /opt/.. for replace the folder of serviio 0.61.
And upgrade the version of WebUI, with the same method (replace the old folder by the newer).

Is there a separate install required for WebUI? When I installed 0.61 it was included in Serviio. Won't it get installed automatically when I upgrade Serviio? Also, where do I find the WebUI install package?

Yes, it's in separate package, you will find here

Re: HOWTO: Serviio on DNS-320 & DNS-325

Hi All

I have been working with 6.1 for a few days now and i think it is all working ok, the WebUi can see folders and says it is running, i have setup my devices with the correct profile, I tested with each of the known support files in the correct folders, it worked, until i filled my server with all my data, now when I go to my player I can see the server running, I can see folders and files, but now when i select files that worked befor I filled the drive, I get a cant play error, what could have changed?

Do i need to upgrade to newer version of Serviio and is that now version 1?

Make sure you use the right profile, ideally give your devices static IP addresses on your router.

Re: HOWTO: Serviio on DNS-320 & DNS-325

Can anyone help, I'm new to this but am picking things up.

I had ffp v0.7 already installed, installed serviio 0.6.1, followed all instructions and got the server running although untested on my devices.

Used webUI to set everything up.

All seemed fine, so I tried to add a profile which did have me a bit lost but eventually got it with the help of Google.
This seemed to work but could not see the new profile in the webUI.
I thought I would just get it running then worry about extra profiles, so..

Stopped the webUI as directed.
Checked I could still login as root through PUTTY.
All fine.
Inserted second HDD (my ffp, debian etc is on a 160 gig drive I had laid around)
Checked access with PUTTY again via SSH
Again all fine, started webUI just to check and stopped it again.
Set it away coping my media to the second drive and went to bed.

Got up this morning, media is copied but now I cannot get back in as root.
Get this message as soon as the terminal comes up after opening via PUTTY

Network error: Connection refused

I have actually tried twice with the same happening, I leave it for a while after I have everything working on the NAS and I can't get back in, first time I assumed I messed up and just started fresh, (the reason I used a small drive I had laid around to install the software packages on).
Now I'm thinking there might be another problem as I double checked root access all the way and it's only when I have left it for a while that this has happened.

Hope someone can help,
Thanks

Hi,
What do you want to say when you say "i can't copy nothing?"
What did you try to copy ?
Do you have a root acces to your nas (with the debian version) ?

Hi,
Have you a telnet acces ?
Have you thought to remove ffp's file, and put the debian file ?
I never encounter this problem, but do you think your nas reboot ?
Maybe you can check the log of your nas !

Re: HOWTO: Serviio on DNS-320 & DNS-325

Thanks for the reply tihob.
I figured it out last night, all I did was swap sides with the drives and all seems fine. (did this after reading some people had probs with ffp on one side but ok on the other.)
What pointed me in this direction was the fact that it did it again to me after only ffp was installed, which had never happened before, difference was the other drive was in the box too, previously I had left it out until fpp, serviio etc was installed.

Working on WDTV and files visible from Panasonic BD but can't play, this is the exact situ I was in with the windows version of serviio and all I did was add the Panasonic blu ray profile for playback of every codec I threw at it. Hopefully that will happen with the NAS install too.

moi aussi je suis french :) , j'accede finalement au contenu apres que j'ai changé le proprio et le group a root au lieu de "501"

i finally succeed to see content of folder after changed owner and group to be root instead of "501"

however , i am disappointed as it's not working properly for divX on my TV Bravia (which cannot see that natively) and it was the only purpose of Serviio ...

i am not so surprised as 700 Mhz is not good enough for reeconding on the fly

Hi,
I too have the same problem / mnt/HD/HD_a2/Video ... I do not see the content, I'm not very experienced with debian commands, kindly what can I do?

thanks

Re: HOWTO: Serviio on DNS-320 & DNS-325

I installed serviio 1.0.1 on my DNS-325 with samsung ue32es610 and seems to work very well, the only problem is the lack of back and forth filming on tv.

Thank you very much
