Re: Step by Step: create a Serviio - FreeNAS server

Could be lots of things....

Both server and console must be same version

Need to edit a file, as specified in the guide, on console so it knows where server is. Can you ping server from console ?

Check logs on both.

Buy a Apple TV or Western Digital Live Hub. The hub worked well for me but it was only a demo from work. Waiting on Apple TV.

The console wont start, so it makes pinging the sever a bit of an imposibility...

The nas shows up in my net work, and i can see it and write files to it...via windows...

It is also seen via DNLA on my blueray player, but nofiles can be accessed / seen

Re: Step by Step: create a Serviio - FreeNAS server

When mine was running I set the nas to anonymous access so anyone could see all my files. Don't like that but let it slide for a few days.

CAn you ping nas and read files from it from the machine that will run the console? They must be separate machines. But I think you can shutdown console machine after db is built.

For a while I could only see music, no video.

Re: Step by Step: create a Serviio - FreeNAS server

Ok did some digging....

went back into the server via putty and ran the serviio.sh file with no sucess, so i opened the nas client and found the serviio.sh file

it had the old ip .7 (i dont have the ability to make staic IP's on the router i'm using at the mo, i may try another router later

i changed the ip to .4 and saved it and ran servio via putty ./serviio.sh

nothing seemd to happen, so i ran seviio from the windows menu

it popped up in the menu bar, and shows the server as running....

i;m just going to try talking via the blueray player

Re: Step by Step: create a Serviio - FreeNAS server

OK back in the land of the living :)

Started the server up again this morning...

same as yesterday, the serviio console wont run / not started....

So puttyed into the server and ran the serviio.sh file... ./serviio.sh

and ran the console (windows) all strted ok

I'm guessing this is because i havn't got the the Serviio.sh file in the right directory, or the startup script is wrong..(any help here would be great)

the next battle is to get the media to show.

It show directorys as indicated via the console, but nothing inside them shows..

Ive trried rescanning the folders (1 test folder with 1 song) but again nothing shows....

any ideas?

Re: Step by Step: create a Serviio - FreeNAS server

Serviio must be running on nas for console to start on 2nd machine. There is a way to get a script to do that when the nas starts. Have not found it myself.

If the blurray can display the folders but not contents check the logs from the console are they getting metadata? Are the files on a share that is readable by all aka anonymous?

What file format is the files?

I have Serviio 0.5 running on FreeNAS 8, it works well. What do I need to do to upgrade to 0.6? Just re-run the install package, or all dependencies as well?

wait a few days for 0.6.1 so not to waste your time then you can just install Serviio nothing else should need changing. :) well except remote console as that need to be 0.6.1 too :)

Re: Step by Step: create a Serviio - FreeNAS server

Hope you guys can help. I've followed the steps in this and other threads on Serviio with FreeNAS and have hit a brick wall.

My FreeNAS box has an IP of 192.168.2.4 and the machine with the console 192.168.2.6

Firstly, on the FreeNas side, all of the threads seem to suggest that the Serviio.sh file should contain the IP address of the FreeNAS box (although from one thread I seemed to get the impression that it needed to be the machine with the console) (i.e -Dserviio.remoteHost=192.168.2.4 (or 6).
BUT (!) - I can only get serviio running on the NAS by putting Dserviio.remoteHost=LocalHost ! If I do this it runs and my Blu-ray player can see serviio - success (or so I thought). If I put the FreeNas or console machine ip address then I get Can't assign requested address error.

Amended the ServiioConsole.exe.VMOPTIONS file on the windows machine to contain -Dserviio.remoteHost=192.168.2.4, started the console and get Cannot connect to server - Communication Error (1001) - Connection refused : connect.

Anybody got any ideas - It's driving me mad - so near and yet....

Re: Step by Step: create a Serviio - FreeNAS server

OK - Thanks Cerberus. I must have been tired. For anybody as stupid as me coming along later, forget about localhost. Use the Freenas IP address in both files.
My problem was that despite reading the instruction to open port 23432 on all firewalls, I stubbornly refused to on the Freenas. Schoolboy error. All working now and thanks to all working on Serviio for a great bit of software.

Re: Step by Step: create a Serviio - FreeNAS server

Thanks to maltmoose and dboy on the workaround for the adding the required freebsd packages with the setenv PACKAGESITE. This worked well for me the second time around. I wanted to note for those of us blindly following instructions that you may need to edit the PACKAGESITE if you have an Intel based machine. Since I have an Intel P4, I had to use this to get it to work properly:

setenv PACKAGESITE ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports ... le/Latest/

The first time, I used the AMD packages and I could still see pictures and stream music but none of the video worked (no files were visible on my TV). That's when I re-read the instructions and noted this mistake I made. After I redid the entire Serviio install with the proper packages, everything works fine now.

I wanted to post since this could be the problem for others having issues where only pictures and music are working and no video files are visible.

maltmoose wrote:Thought i'd post back as i had the same experience as dboy, however i found another solution other than manually downloading the packages as the original pkg_add way doesnt work on the latest amd64 version.

The below ftp allows you to use setenv before the pkg_add then it will download and install them for you as originally described.
I had a few warning on the version being newer but it all seemed to work ok

setenv PACKAGESITE ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports ... le/Latest/
