Re: Android Console

I'm more than happy to change things. If I get feedback from more users in the next few weeks/after it is released then I could move it.

I do understand where you are coming from and if the app did look exactly like the console then it would be easier, but the console is not designed for mobile devices where space is limited. You have to weight things based on their frequency of use and importance.

Yes a new serviio user will want to change the presentation settings, but once they have made the changes, there is little need to adjust them in the future.

Hopefully some other people can give some input.

My advice is take the easiest route and revisit once you have some actual users if need be.

Re: Android Console

Ok thought of the best one... ServiiDroid
Instead of the "O" at the end of SERViiO, it starts with a "D"

I think it should capture the iconic "ii" of Serviio ;)

will wrote:But how often do people actually need to change the main Presentation settings? Once it is set up how they like it, the only reason they would re-visit it, is if zip added a new entry.

I agree! Presentation is a settings feature so shouldnt be a main tab, it's got too much settings, onceits set theres not much reason going back, and slow it down while scrolling.

Don't think we may resolve this so could be a user preference option like you did with short click command

Re: Android Console

The difference is that tabs are views that are swapped in/out and have access to common code on the main activity that controls them. Anything else is a new activity with its own code. So I could do that but with the current implementation, it would require two sets of nearly identical code and lots of public static methods/variables to pass stuff around which is not nice.

I'm currently doing lots of refactoring of the code into utility classes, so I'll invistigate it.

Re: Android Console

hey I was using your console on my droid X last night while I was trying to get online feeds working. I added the feed with no problem, but when I turned on my server monitor and checked the serviio console the feed was not there. I tried refreshing the serviio console but the feed still did not show up. I ended up having to exit the serviio console and reopening it to see the feed. This is information that needs to be told to the user, so he will not start troubleshooting a feed not showing on the serviio console when added by a third party add.

Maybe There is something zip can do to get the feeds to refresh totally. I am planning on trying with the restful UI also and see if I get the same results.

Re: Android Console

Yes that will happen, its on my todo list to jot down some notes as it effects all parts of the console except the status tab.
The console was not designed for the data to change while open.
I don't expect zip to change this as it is a bit of a pain, although it would be nice if he did, especially as more apps are developed.

I'll make an FAQ / Help page on the wiki which will include this. Anything else I should include that wasn't immediately obvious?

Re: Android Console

Beta 13 is now ready link
Lots of UI tweaks and better intergration with system themes to hopefully give a more consisten experience. Also some bug fixes for odd cases.

  Code:
*Added preference screen style title to server settings
*Backgrounds around buttons now match system theme
*Fixed possiable layout issue on the status tab if you have a really long name or address for your server
*Fixed #27: App will sometimes crash if left in a sub activity (e.g. Library settings) and then resumed
*Added being able to cancel the initial load by pressing the back button.
*Added descriptions to entries on the 'Advanced' tab
*Lots of refactoring of code into utility classes - I may have broken things
*Fixed #23: Links in the about view are not clickable
*Dissable the 'Image' radio button on the online source edit view when the source type is set to 'Live stream'
*Added current app version to server selection view
*Moved presentaion back into Settings tab and changed it to 'Advanced'
*Adjusted the display of the title tabs
*Added even more code to try and capture a crash when using 'ignore this version' when a server update is available. If you get this problem, please fill in your serviio forum username/contant me with more details.

I've put my fairly lame attempt at an icon in, please do submit better ideas. The next release will include the new name and branding and will have a new package name. So any final thoughts on the naming/icon?

Think the top two names are:
Serviioid
ServiiDroid

Re: Android Console

Yep lots of crash reports and lots of emails.

Fixed and uploaded a new version, go menu->about and then download to get the new beta 13.

I did loads of changes to the presentaiton back end, and tested it properly. Then made a tiny change to the settings backend, and forgot do a full check on the presentation activity which uses it.

Can you do exactly what you did with the presentation, have a good play, but do it with every part of the app.

Re: Android Console

All good now! ;)

It would be also nice if you kept the same theme of colour on the information text about each advanced option like you did with settings

Example
Library settings <----- Grey
Mangae how your library is kep up to date <---- The light blue you use in the other settings
