ServiioMetro a management console for windows phone 7

ServiiMetro allows you to update your Serviio (http://www.serviio.org) dlna settings directly from your windows phone. Now you don't even need to leave your couch to update your settings.

ServiiMetro includes a lookup to ServiiDb.com for conveniently adding new online resources. ServiiMetro has no affiliation with ServiiDb.com.

Looks good, congrats.

I wouldn't call it that boring, but them I'm not a designer either. Although the header at the top could maybe be improved a bit.

I'm sure @zip will want to test it as he has a (or used to have) and WP7 device.

Hi Rolf, thanks for the email and getting involved in this app for all us Windows Phone users. :D

The screen shots looks really impressive, can't wait to test it, I have have a developer Windows Phone on the latest 7.8 firmware, please email me the xap in my gmail so can test it.

I've read though Microsoft are banning apps with the "Metro" name

That is not cool. I did a quick search and http://www.wpcentral.com/story-wasnt-microsoft-not-banning-apps-metro-their-name seems to disagree. Not sure but I guess it would be better to just change it than to wait for it to change.

I quite like the name ServiiMetro but then I'm bias. Anyway the name is easy to change, if you have some better suggestions then post them here. Maybe we can even have a vote.

Re: ServiioMetro a management console for windows phone 7

I'm sure you have lots of ideas, but a few thoughts:
*Options to show how many files were added last on the live tile
*Add remote access settings
*Not sure from the picture, but you cannot change the name or ip of a device once it is added, so that should be visually different (and shouldn't be changeable as Serviio will ignore it)
*Add access group controls to devices, shared folders, online sources
*Number of threads could be quite large e.g. 8 on a quad core with hyperthreading, so maybe use a picker
*Cannot see from pic, do you support, and visually show, disabled devices and online sources?

Other points:
*If you want to do translations, I recomend getLocalization
*Think now about how you will deal with new versions of Serviio, I designed ServiiDroid to be backwards compatiable, you may choose not to, but then make sure it is clear to users when e.g. 1.1 comes out, that they shouldn't update your app until they have updated their server (which they should do anyway, but from the limited data I've seen, some users can be pretty slow to update)
*I think you have the high res version (512x512) of the serviio logo/rings that mavika did just around the 1.0 launch, but if you don't pm me or zip for them. I also have the serviio font, again thanks to mavika for tracking it down, if you want that to generate a higher resolution version of your logo.

Re: ServiioMetro a management console for windows phone 7

Just tested it. Really amazing work for a short time after you emailed me saying your starting this project!
It works very well. Noticed few bugs but for a first build this is very stable, no crashes at all! Touch wood!

Bug 1. It added one of my Serviio twice on the "server select list"
Bug 2. When i clicked on the Serviio of my choice, it loaded the serviiometro image and stayed there loading. I could access the settings but not the main serviio server status.
After going to homescreen and loading ServiiMetro again i did access the server status screen.
Bug 3. When i choose the Server i want it keeps going to the settings of the server, it should go to the server status screen first
Bug 4. Scrolling up and down the list in "online resources" get stuck after you do it once or twice

Suggested Enhancements (building on will have mentioned)
1. Library status missing "Newst file"
2. Change name of "online resource" to "online sources"
3. In "devices" - Is it possible to have the coloured circle indicators on the left
4. To switch to another Serviio server, this should be in the main options after setting (currently where you have send feedback) so its easier to switch

Overall an excellent job. It works super fast!

Are you able to also upload it to wAppStore - http://wappstore.org/appstore/
Its free and easy for developers to share Windows Phone Apps.
Easy for end users to download and install right on their phones.

Re: ServiioMetro a management console for windows phone 7

Great stuff, Rolf. It looks like a normal WP7 app, so I wouldn't be too concerned about the design. Not everything can look like Coctail Flow :-) I don't have a dev phone, so cannot install it yet, but will definitely be using it once it's out :-)

The only thing to point out is that I'd like you to change the icon - you can create one that resembled Serviio icon, but not a straight copy - eg look at what Will did with ServiiDroid.

Hopefully you had fun developing this and will give a playback app (via CDS API) a shot too ;-)

Great job!

Re: ServiioMetro a management console for windows phone 7

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm away for the next 2 weeks but as soon as I get back I will have a look at the changes and look at releasing a new version. I can also release the new version via app hub as a beta version. Just send me your windows live email addresses. Using the app hub should mean that anyone with a windows phone 7.5 (mango) and up can test and use the software.

I like the simple white icon feature that WP adopts in their icon design, example Marketplae, Messages, Internet Explorer icons, zip is this OK? This way the user have their choice what their background should be

Hi Rolf, Microsoft are discounting developers account for the next 8 days, I'm planning to get the new Nokia Lumia 920

www.engadget.com/2012/10/30/microsoft-d ... tion-to-8/

Maybe we can see the app in the official Marketplace

Re: ServiioMetro a management console for windows phone 7

Hi everyone, sorry that I have been so quiet. I have been looking for a new contract/job and last Friday my phone got stolen so I put development on hold for a while. Anyway, I am back and I will start looking at the issues raised this weekend.

So, I have a few new designs. Could everyone please give me some feedback on their favourite icon?

Obviously Zip has final say in terms of which icons are allowed.
