Spent 4 hours installing 2012 R2 Datacentre, Media Pack essentials trying to get some DLNA streaming around the house. Had loads of issues configuring Media Pack Essentials.

Found, Downloaded, Installed, Configuring and starting streaming Serviio in 10 minutes.

Support for Netflix would be rather complex, as it is a logged in service and last time I tried to wrap my head around the API, any integrating application needs an API key.

This would mean that if there is a working plugin, Netflix could easily block it in case of abuse, such as people sharing their passwords (or distributing them along with the plugin).

That said, I may have a go at it some time in the future.

Well, itsn't this ironic:

"Netflix Will Shut Down Public API Support For Third-Party Developers On November 14"

In other words, the answer is "No, it's not possible to write a Netflix plugin".

Re: Netflix

Since Netflix is "just" HTML5 now, is it possible to stream it?

Well, it's a premium service which requires login. Which is done using all sorts of obfuscated javascript libraries, with requests sent encrypted over https.

Reverse engineering this login procedure is no slim task.

And once it's done there are no guarantees that plugin development is as easy as scraping html5 and assembling some stream urls.
Each request to start playing a stream involves an encrypted authorisation token.

So, I'd say it's still highly unlikely that there will be a Netflix plugin.
