BBC National Radio Channels (UK only)

The BBC provide a selection of formats for the online live streams of various national UK radio stations. On the BBC Radio / iplayer website you can select low bandwidth and normal bandwidth but it provides few details.

Looking on Tunein.com for e.g Radio 1 you get 4 options:
http://tunein.com/radio/BBC-Radio-1-England-988-s24939/

WMA 48k, AAC 128k, 56k, 48k

If you get the URL details out of the link you can feed the AAC url's into Serviio as a 'web resource'. For example Radio one AAC 128k url is:
http://bbcmedia.ic.llnwd.net/stream/bbc ... 231cc9c2bf

I found it easier to get the links from this page in the end rather than tunein.com
http://www.listenlive.eu/uk.html

Re: BBC National Radio Channels (UK only)

Hi there,

Thanks for the info - I have created the AAC BBC Radio URL as an Audio Web Resource in Serviio, but they do not show up when I browse the Online Resource Folder. The AAC Radio URL I'm using is here:

  Code:
http://bbcmedia.ic.llnwd.net/stream/bbcmedia_lc1_radio1_p?s=1326256281&e=1326270681&h=4b763798a0fa6eb6632a3861600f15cf

Do I need a .groovy plugin for this to work? I have the latest iPlayer.groovy installed, and my iPlayer video feeds all work.

I didn't use a plugin, they just worked as is in Serviio. To double check, your in the UK ? They probably don't work outside of the UK.

Re: BBC National Radio Channels (UK only)

I do live in the UK. *updates profile*

If I paste the above URL into a Web Browser window, it opens Media Player and starts playing the AAC stream, so I know the link is valid.
No idea why it won't work in Serviio..

Also, I have noticed that the URL changes every few hours - for example the BBC Radio 1 AAC URL I used 9 hours ago is different to the one I posted above. Will I need to change the Web Resource URL in Serviio every time I want to use the radio stream?

Re: BBC National Radio Channels (UK only)

I'd not noticed that....bit frustrating ! How was the AAC when it was working ? It cut out every 3 seconds for me I found, though super clear when working :) The tv reports as LPCM, I presumed it was being transcoded and cpu couldn't keep up, just guessing though.

Re: BBC National Radio Channels (UK only)

Audio transcoding takes very litle CPU so that should not be that. It's possible that for LPCM playback you need a very steady incoming stream.

Re: BBC National Radio Channels (UK only)

ic, I've notice that on the 2010 sony series tv I use it seems to do very little buffering. I'll try on other devices ... as the set is reporting as LPCM it is being transcoded though ?

Per the stream changing, I guess it would need a small plugin to take this stream which doesn't change to get the url u really need for serviio to start streaming.

Move to audio streams.

FYI I had a quick play via a Sony 2011 and while not perfect the drops are less and thats over wifi v the 2010 hardwired !

Re: BBC National Radio Channels (UK only)

I'd also be very interested in being able to put a playlist url in as an audio feed. The inability to add the national BBC radio stations to the list is making my new audio setup hard to sell to my customer base (AKA 'wife'). :D

I'm yet to find any other radio stations which change their feed URL's dynamically in this way. Not sure why the BBC do it really!

Alternatively is there a work around to allow BBC Radio stations appear in the Audio>Online list along with all the others I've been able to add? I don't want them to appear elsewhere to maintain ease of use.

If it makes any difference I browse the library using BubbleUPNP on an Android phone and send media to various renderers around the home.

Re: BBC National Radio Channels (UK only)

I've not found a workaround as yet. TBH I've not had much time to tinker.

It would be a great feature to add for sure.

Re: BBC National Radio Channels (UK only)

There is a way to download BBC audio by just putting playlist URLs in the downloader(like AllMyTube) :D

I don't think so, you might need a VPN for this.
