Yes indeed their manuals are not current on many "tiny" details such as these...
Also DLNA support evolves (good or bad) with firmware updates...
For instance, it seems VL963 had DMR profile activated at some point (supporting "play to" in WMP12): some of their TV sets are indeed DMR certified (x938, x968, etc), and DLNA platform must be quite similar across the sets... I hope this will come back.

I have a VL963 (not TL), and encounter same issues: would you share your custom profile once you finalize your testing?

I tried the new setting (targetContainer="mpegts"), and it is just the same as the previous one (targetContainer="mpeg"), in that .avi and .flv videos cannot be paused. When I try to pause with either of these settings the tv just displays "processing" and the video continues. If I try to fast forward or reverse, nothing happens - the video just continues normally.

I also checked out what was supported on my tv by disabling transcoding on the Serviio box - and found that the tv played mkv and mp4 with no problem - so the manual is definitely wrong.

If you just add in the extra profile that Illico created it looks as though it should work on your tv as well, and at least allow the playing of .avi's and .flv's - just change the profile id entry from "Toshiba2012" to "Tosh2012" if you dont then the Serviio service fails.

That could be fine t have a detection mecanism...could you enable detailed logging (see signature link) then post the log just after a serviio service restart ?

I supposed that your Toshiba IP address is 192.168.1.0.5... So no solution to automatically detect the toshiba model...too generic receive message.

the Toshiba is actually 192.168.0.8, so it was not picked up in the log file.
when I first tried this, by the time I started the media player on the tv there were multiple log files each 500K in size. I will try again tonight, but with the media player already started on the tv - hopefully it will get picked up in the log files then.

I've attached the new serviio log file, which contains references to 192.168.0.8 which is my tv.
This looks generic to me, but hopefully I'm wrong.
If this log file is of no help, is there any other way forward in pausing .avi's, or is there no fix?

I have a 37UL863 Toshiba REGZA.

This is what i get with device spy:


I have got 2 dlna-servers, the first is allshare and the second is the wmp, but i want to use only one dlna-server on my linux-server and so i have found serviio.
The problem is that the movies work fine on this tv with the windows media player 12 and shark007codec pack.
But with serviio (profile: Thoshiba REGZA), the mkvs randomly stops while watching and in an avi the sound is deformed.

Can anybody help me to find the failure in the profile and is the amd athlon x2 4200+ good enough for transcoding?

so far a can play properly only avi and mp4 files, the rest have to be trascoded to play but don't pause/resume.

can you please explane why avi files play properly when adding:

what happens when name is empty

as far as mp4s i changed pn names as found in sink and they work fine too.

generally it seems that i can't pause/resume... when transcoding, tried almost all combinations.
so i try by renaming pn in mediaformatprofile to play all possible supported files.

i managed to also play mkv files by renaming them to avi so far i can play all videos in my collection that i have tried

Are you using the current Toshiba profile with these additions or did you create a new profile?

Here is my DeviceSpy sink info for Toshiba 32RL958 (I thought it was called an 32RL958B)

I have also included the 2 pages from the user manual that says what formats are supported. Note, that a lot of the formats are USB only and not available via DMS (DLNA Media Server). I don't know whether the extra USB formats are contained in the DeviceSpy sink info (or whether some of them actually work via DMS - someone said the user manual on their TV said items would not work but when he tried they did).

I have one of these too, as well as its 40-inch version. The current Toshiba profile seems to play most formats but, as mentioned elsewhere, does not allow for pausing or forwarding/rewinding. Is there any likelihood of improving the navigation or is this as good as it can get?

Try the Generic profile, which doesn't transcode. It looks like the Toshiba can't seek transcoded content.

Last week I have got a new Toshiba TV 39L4333DG. Here you are the supported formats as listed by Device Spy (L4333.txt) and the DLNA Test Certificate (DLNA_REG26211216.pdf).


P.S: a lot of troubles with my first Serviio configurations
Generic DLNA profile: not able to play any videos because unsupported format error; several .avi and .mp4 files tested.
Toshiba Regza profile: .avi files still not playing (as above), while .mp4 files can start/stop, but pause/fastfw/fastrw don't run.

What if you try the Sharp Aquos profile?

From the experience with Sharp Aquos profile.
Now I can properly play the .avi files (including pause/fastfw/fastrw) with just the following minimal profile:

MP4 formats still not running because unsupported format error. Maybe a rename also for them could be enough, but I don't understand what MediaFormatProfile(s) should add.

NOTE: my L433 sink file well matches with the L9 sink files from DarrenNewsgroup and mdimitr; is it the standard 2013 for the Toshiba Smart TV models ?

The rename of every MediaFormatProfile that is in the Generic DLNA profile but doesn't match any DeviceSpy element seems the simplest and quickest way to setup a good Toshiba L4333 profile. Mostly it's enough to confirm the mime-type with empty name: see attached the profile.xml file I'm currently using. Thanks to the versatility of the new Toshiba Smart TV models the device is able to directly play the most common video/audio formats.

Maybe you'll find some files not running: take note and post file info according to the admin's instructions. At the moment any attempt to setup a transcode section is ineffective because of the lack on Toshiba TV playback full control when serviio provides streaming from the transcoder (pause, ffw, frw don't run; same experience of mdimitr and others). To occasionally spend few time on video conversion seems an acceptable temporary solution and it's what I've already done to create hardsub video copies if subtitles were required.
