Need help establishing profile for Philips 42PFL7406

Hello all!

I've been having struggles getting Serviio to work well with my Philips TV. I looked into how to create a profile of my own but I don't quite get the hang of it and so I'm asking for help here.

Here's the info that I've gathered this far

  Code:
http-get:*:audio/mpeg:DLNA.ORG_PN=MP3,
http-get:*:audio/L16;rate=44100;channels=2:DLNA.ORG_PN=LPCM,
http-get:*:audio/L16;rate=44100;channels=1:DLNA.ORG_PN=LPCM,

http-get:*:image/jpeg:DLNA.ORG_PN=JPEG_LRG,
http-get:*:image/jpeg:DLNA.ORG_PN=JPEG_SM_ICO,
http-get:*:image/jpeg:DLNA.ORG_PN=JPEG_LRG_ICO,

http-get:*:video/mpeg:DLNA.ORG_PN=MPEG_TS_SD_EU_ISO,

The only thing I managed to play with the "Generic Profile" is .vob but there is no sound.

If I use the REGZA profile I'm able to play all content, but from what I understand it then transcodes every single bit though the computer can keep up with it no problem.
I try to do anything except stop the movie. Let's say I rewind/forward, the movie freezes but it keeps on transcoding, I can see the file on my computer is getting bigger and bigger.
If I try to play another file it just keeps on transcoding the old one I tried and nothing happens.
I have to restart Serviio (not only by shutting down the service and restarting it) to make it delete the transcoded file and first then I can play another one.

Any tips?

Best regards,

Alex

Re: Need help establishing profile for Philips 42PFL7406

Thanks for all informations.
Could you also provide "Description xml" of your device using INTEL spy tool?

Could you add this section just before the last </Profiles> element in the "profiles.xml" file?
Then restart serviio service and check in serviio console that your device is automatically detected and proper profile is selected.

  Code:
   <Profile id="21" name="Philips" extendsProfileId="1">
      <Detection>
         <UPnPSearch>
            <FriendlyName>.*PHILIPS.*</FriendlyName>
         </UPnPSearch>
      </Detection>
      <MediaFormatProfiles>
         <MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/avi" name="">AVI</MediaFormatProfile>
      </MediaFormatProfiles>
   </Profile>

Re: Need help establishing profile for Philips 42PFL7406

Hi and thanks for the help!

The TV is automatically recognized as Philips now and AVI-files are working perfectly (ff, rew, pause etc)!
Vob-files are still without sound.

Any other format is not working (TV says not supported).

I read the other threads but couldn't really figure out what you wanted me to look after?

Attached is my description xml.

Re: Need help establishing profile for Philips 42PFL7406

Hello norrgrd,

since last Monday I have a Philips 47PFL7606K/02 TV, and I'd like to play the *.mpg.avi movies that I frequently would download from OnlineTVrecorder, using a media server.

So far I have found out that the PS3MediaSever (running on my Apple iMac) is able to transcode and play these OTR movies without needing any specific configuration, but unfortunately it seems to be unable to display *.jpg/*.jpeg files.

In contrast to this the Serviio server displays my jpeg photos without specific configuration but not the *.mpg.avi movies from OTR (using the generic DLNA profile).

Now I have seen here that you, norrgrd, have managed to play *.avi videos on your Philips 42PFL7406 TV, and I hope that I could successfully use the same profile/settings as you. I'd be very grateful of you could post the required file(s) here and explain to me where I have to put them. (I'm a complete Serviio newbie!) Many thanks in advance!

Re: Need help establishing profile for Philips 42PFL7406

Once we get this working for this Philips device and it is verified by a couple of additional users, Zip will probably update the profiles.xml file with the information in the next revision.

Hey wandro,

Look at Illicos post above (viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3591#p23926)

I am not really sure where you can find profiles.xml on a mac.

Also have a look here to get a better understanding of profiles.xml http://www.serviio.org/index.php?option ... icle&id=16

Re: Need help establishing profile for Philips 42PFL7406

I have now applied the modifications proposed by illico to my profiles.xml file (btw: it is in Servio.app/Contents/Resources/Java/config on Mac OS), but that didn't help. Probably I should solve two other strange problems first:

    1. We have two iMac's. The Philips TV is listed (with a green bullet and the correct IP address) in the renderer's window on both iMac's. (I run only one Serviio server at a time, of course!) But conversely, the media server is recognized on the TV only if it runs on the second of our iMac's.

    2. In the latter case, however, the TV displays a list of movies offered by the media server that is outdated apparently: It still contains movies that I have deleted in the meantime from my movie directory on the second iMac. For each of the still existing movies the TV reports that it couldn't be found or read, just as for the non-existing ones.

Philips TV: 192.168.1.137
First iMac (Ethernet): 192.168.1.51
Second iMac (WLAN): 192.168.1.53

Connecting the first iMac via WLAN (192.168.1.59) makes no difference: TV doesn't recognize Serviio server.

In the attachment you find the configuration files of PS3MediaServer for PS3 (containing explanations) and Philips. Perhaps that helps to create a working Philips configuration for Serviio.

Re: Need help establishing profile for Philips 42PFL7406

Now I have tested PS3MediaServer on my first iMac: It doesn't recognize the TV, and the TV doesn't recognize the server either.

In the attachment you find the configuration files of PS3MediaServer for PS3 and Philips (pure text files). Perhaps that helps to create corresponding Serviio profiles.

47PFL7606 and 42PFL7406 should be similar, so yes.

Re: Need help establishing profile for Philips 42PFL7406

When adding that to my profile it starts to transcode avi-files that works without transcode (all I've tried) and if I try to rw/fw the sound gets all messed up though the picture is fine, even if I wait until it's all transcoded before I try. Did not happen before without transcode.

Media that does work:

Media that doesn't work:
Haven't found any yet, except unsupported file formats (I think they are) like .img and .iso, they doesn't even show up. Also no subtitles are working, neither embedded, .srt, .sub or .idx.

Thanks, works better now :)

Any idea how to solve ff/rw with MKV's? And the subtitle support?

OK
norrgrd wrote:Any idea how to solve ff/rw with MKV's?

We could try remux mkv into mpegps as others container. See following profile.
norrgrd wrote: And the subtitle support?

No, if philips TV not support mkv in native format, we have to remux video/audio/subtitle into MPEGPS or MPEGTS stream. But for the moment Serviio does not support remuxing subtitle or "burn" subtitle into video stream. Serviio only support external "srt" subtitle file.
With MKVtoolnix you can try to extract subtitle into a "srt" file with same name of the movie file *.srt
