[SOLVED] problem with burned-in subtitles

Hi, I'm new to DLNA devices but in the last weeks I've tried several media servers and I've chosen serviio for its stability, high number of features and active community.

Now I'm facing a problem with subtitles.
As far as I understand now with v.1.2 they should be supported for all devices, but I can't get them working on my Philips HTS5563/12 Home theatre.
Here you find my DEBUG log and my settings, con you help me please?

Please note that I'm using "Philips (2010-)" profile, while the log says Resource request accepted. Using client 'Identifier=192.168.1.50, Profile=Generic DLNA profile'

When recording the log I was using "G:\TEMP" as Transcoded file location. I had changed it few minutes earlier, restarting service and server.
Still, the log reports serviio looking for a file in 'C:\Windows\TEMP\Serviio\'

Thanks

Edit: forgot to say that HTS returns me the error "file not supported" while without burning subs it plays perfectly.
I'm on Windows 7, serviio 1.2, ffmpeg updated with yesterday's download (same result with the one bundled with serviio anyway)

Re: problem with burned-in subtitles

Could you retry, and find on logging the ffmpeg command line used to transcode your file ?

Re: problem with burned-in subtitles

no hints?
is ffmpeg command line syntax correct?
I have a huge library of foreign movies with subs...

meanwhile I made another attempt without spaces or ()[] characters in filename and path with the same result

Thanks

Re: problem with burned-in subtitles

We can see that ffmpeg crashed.
Could retry the same command line in a local windows terminal ?
  Code:
C:\Program Files\Serviio\bin\\..\lib/ffmpeg.exe -threads auto -i "F:\utorrent\Incoming\Looper (2012) [1080p]\Looper.2012.1080p.BluRay.x264.YIFY.mp4" -y -c:v mpeg2video -qscale:v 1 -vf subtitles=filename="F\\:/utorrent/Incoming/Looper (2012) [1080p]/Looper.2012.1080p.BluRay.x264.YIFY.srt":original_size=1920x816 -r 24000/1001 -g 15 -c:a ac3 -b:a 384k -ac 2 -map 0:0 -map 0:1 -sn -f vob "C:\Windows\TEMP\Serviio\transcoding-temp-49842-1-ORIGINAL-ff942a9a37341bd39749a8c17157c619.stf"

But I suggest to remove ()[] on both file and folder path. There is a bug on 1.2 about that. (will be fixed on next version)

Re: problem with burned-in subtitles

I solved downloading ffmeg v.1.1.1 and putting it in lib folder.

I had first errors with the version that came bundled with serviio 1.2 (supposedly ffmpeg v. 1.1.1 as I read here http://www.serviio.org/download), thus I replaced it with ffmpeg v. N-50663-gb5e5ed8 built on Mar 12 2013, which gave me the errors described above.

Going back to v. 1.1.1 downloaded here http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/win32/static/ solved everything.

... confused but glad to have subtitles now....

Re: [SOLVED] problem with burned-in subtitles

Everything was playing fine in my Philips set with the profile I prepared (now default 2010 with Serviio) until I noticed that I couldn't play .MP4 files with the "burn-in" option activated IF there are subtitles present.

MKV + subs + burn-in = Play!
MP4 + subs + burn-in = Fail
MP4 + subs - burn-in = Play!
MP4 - subs + burn-in = Play!

For some reason the MP4 container doesn't like the burn-in option. It also happens with M4V containers.

I'm going to try with the FFMPEG.EXE that you suggest and see what happens <- It didn't change anything.

I have found, however, that some other MP4 files do work with .srt and the burn-in option, so maybe it's a problem with certain MP4 files only.

Re: [SOLVED] problem with burned-in subtitles

Are you on Windows and using the bundled FFmeg?
Does this file exist? E:/Peliculas/The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey 2012 1080p/The.Hobbit.An.Unexpected.Journey.1080p.srt

Re: [SOLVED] problem with burned-in subtitles

Yes, I'm on Windows and using the bundled ffmpeg.

And yes, the .srt file exists. I made sure both the movie and file were named the same, got rid of [] and (), etc.

Re: [SOLVED] problem with burned-in subtitles

Solved!

I got the newest ffmpeg.exe from here: http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/win64/static/ (Note I went to the win64 folder)

And all the mp4 and m4v pictures except ONE work with subtitles now. It's certainly a problem with the bundled version of ffmpeg.exe :)

Re: [SOLVED] problem with burned-in subtitles

Good to hear that. Next version will have new FFmpeg, so it should solve it.

Re: [SOLVED] problem with burned-in subtitles

same problem here. I update ffmpeg to the last one and start having problems. The same errors. So i'm going back.
There is some issue with ffmpeg and AVFilterGraph and the SRT subs

EDIT: The only problem was the encoding of the SRT files, it has to be UTF8.
Now is working properly with the latest version :D

EDIT 2: I leave here the batch code to encode all srt files with Power Shell
first go to the main folder of your media

  Code:
get-childitem .\* -include *.srt -recurse | ForEach-Object { (Get-Content $_) | Out-File -Encoding UTF8 $_ }

PS: name with spaces or "()" or "[]" cause problems

Re: [SOLVED] problem with burned-in subtitles

I've finally solved the last problem I had with some subtitles that wouldn't run.

In order to work properly, the .srt file HAS TO HAVE A #1 LINE. Many of the .srt files I've got start like this:

  Code:
2                                             <---------------- No line 1
00:00:52,619 --> 00:00:55,854
TEXT

3
00:00:55,619 --> 00:00:56,854
MORE TEXT

Without a line numbered 1 Serviio would not be able to recognize the file, so just edit the file, add the line number 1 and a time code (00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:01,000) and you are set.

I've encoded some .srt in ANSI and some others in UTF8 (with Notepad++) and both formats work the same.

Re: [SOLVED] problem with burned-in subtitles

Update: Files starting with a "0" line will also work.

Resume:

1.- Update your ffmpeg
2.- Be sure the .srt files are either ANSI or UTF8 (neither Endian formats will work)
3.- Be sure the .srt files start with a 0 or 1 line. If they don't, just edit them.
