Re: popcorn subtitles

Sure the device support subtitles external and internal with this format SRT SMI SUB SSA.

Yesterday i play a little with the different profiles. None of them seems to working. Even without subtitles. They have (the company) a compatible dlna server (the myihome server).

You can download it (if it gives you any help) from here http://www.popcornhour.com/download/myi ... ihome.html.

Also there is an alternative one (which i use) the Llink http://www.lundman.net/wiki/index.php/Llink

Thanks again for your efforts

Re: popcorn subtitles

Hi, sorry was busy. The log shows there is a problem with the way the renderer communicates with the server now, I think you won't be able to play any files ;-/

Raised a ticket for it: https://bitbucket.org/xnejp03/serviio/i ... g-the-path

Regarding subtitles, I'll have a look at the other servers (I assume they support subtitles with Popcorn?)

Now we have serviio 1.3.1! It still does not work!!!
Is the problem that difficult? Unsolvable?
Isn't it possible for a server expert (serviio) and a client expert (PCH) to communicate with each other and find out why serviio does'n/can't forward a media file to PCH's native media player as other servers (NFS, SMB, DLNA) can?
E.g. PLEX recently released its own player app for PCH as it did for Samsung SmartTV.
Thus there must be an easy solution if there were some interest. Why is there no or near to no interest at serviio's and PCH's side to get DLNA working smoothly? Over all these years? Why prefer a loose/loose over a win/win scenario? Why frustrate serviio und PCH users?

Has anybody seen the Sink Data typo (*:video/x-matroxka:*) which is reported in thread "C-200 and serviio - DLNA discovery" in http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showt ... ?tid=58435 which might be a cause why nothing works properly with uPnP via Serviio!, as Beta Tester RXP writes there in post #4 of the above mentioned thread.

With Intel UPnP tools, Device Spy, I cannot reproduce the above cited Sink Data list.
Double click on GetProtocolInfo(...) of urn:upnp-org:serviceId:ConnectionManager:1 only returns me the following short list:
    http-get:*:audio/L16;rate=44100;channels=1:DLNA.ORG_PN=LPCM,http-get:*:audio/L16;rate=44100;channels=2:DLNA.ORG_PN=LPCM,http-get:*:audio/L16;rate=48000;channels=1:DLNA.ORG_PN=LPCM,http-get:*:audio/L16;rate=48000;channels=2:DLNA.ORG_PN=LPCM,http-get:*:audio/mpeg:DLNA.ORG_PN=MP3,http-get:*:video/mpeg:DLNA.ORG_PN=MPEG_PS_NTSC,http-get:*:video/mpeg:DLNA.ORG_PN=MPEG_PS_PAL,http-get:*:image/jpeg:DLNA.ORG_PN=JPEG_SM,http-get:*:image/jpeg:DLNA.ORG_PN=JPEG_MED,http-get:*:image/jpeg:DLNA.ORG_PN=JPEG_LRG,http-get:*:image/jpeg:DLNA.ORG_PN=JPEG_TN
which, to me simple noob user, does not look too promising either.
(I did this query while PCH played a M2TS video file using Hanewin NFS server on the Vista 32-bit computer.)

It is a pity! Serviio is my favorite DLNA player! PCH C200, with its native player, is my favorite HW client (because of its excellent folder tree navigation and user friendly list view, with long filenames.ext and filesize, 15 lines at a single glance, etc.)!
Folder listing presentation works well! Media file listing presentation works well! Even when served via Serviio!

But, via Serviio, no selected media file is played by PCH native player. Why? Because it is not properly handed over to PCH native player by serviio server? Note, same media file gets excellently played when served via NFS, etc.!

Please, come on, fix it!

Any news?
It should be possible! PLEX did it. ---> Serviio, please, asap!
Why?
Seviio minimizes server load! Transcoding OFF! Metadata OFF! Enjoy full quality pure native video instead!
Let PCH do its magic. Via NFS it plays practically all media files in full HD quality. Serviio could open this door!
Who would want Plex or Chromecast if Serviio served native (un-transcoded) media to PCH?

Just an idea for a quick solution.

IMHO, maccent provided an important clue:
I followed this link,
downloaded Windows 2.3.2 binaries, unizpped and copied \llink to D:\llink,
edited llink.conf, set ROOT|path=c:/1TabTest/ with a couple of *.ts and *.m2ts HD test videos,
double clicked D:\llink\link.exe,
immediately got the typical PCH-C200 file listing of all videos in :/1TabTest/ on my PCH-C200,
browsed on on my PCH-C200 ^ v up down to each test video
-> all played well on the PCH-C200
All from a simple DOS box.
Couldn't Seviio (in a joint venture) simply adopt Mr. Lundman's procedures?

Re: popcorn subtitles

Hi zip,

Sorry, my fault.
I joined this discussion because of "popcorn" and not of "subs". But I need first to see the videos played on popcorn!

My immediate concern is to get the _videos_ played! Instead, I get the rotating circle and, after 30 sec, PCH does not show the video but the message "Could not play".

Serviio and PCH understand each other in the first part, which folders and files are ready to be played from Serviio Library.
Serviio and PCH do not understand each other in the second part, to actually play a selected video. PCH reports "Could not play". I know that it can play these videos (via NFS serving, from plugged-in USB, from PCH's local disc) if it gets it served in its own style.
Plex used to have the same problem. But Plex solved it recently. Now Plex plays all videos on PCH.
What I ask for and what many other PCH users hope for is that Serviio also adopts a solution for playing videos and audios on PCH. (Playing images is already working!)

The UPnP browsing part already is ok.
The UPnP playing part does not work yet.

Some guesses:
May need a different profile?
May need a different UPnP hand over of the video file.
(May even need NMT hand over of video file. Why not?)
Just guesses! Only you will know the answer.

Don't know how Plex did it. But sincerely hope that Serviio will also do it in near future. Want to keep Serviio as the main DLNA hub!

Please understand: I need to see the videos playing on PCH!
Thanks!

Re: popcorn subtitles

Thanks for your offer to have a look at this matter.

But, how can I find the Plex PCH profile, if there is any?

I did not set, select or see any Plex profile. I simply installed and used Plex as is out of the box.
This is what I did:
* Started Plex > Media Manager...
* Created section "Home Movies" (section with least meta data search and generation),
deleted all other sections
* added my folder with the test files to that library section, stored it.
* then I searched in Plex settings how to turn of transcoding. Couldn't find an option to turn it off.
* left Plex Media Manager
* let the Plex server running in background
(end of actions in Plex)

* went to PCH
* PCH Main Menu >selected available Network Sources
* selected Plex source (from my computer)
* still on PCH: browsed Plex library down to a media file
(up to here, folders and files browsing also works with Serviio source)

* pressed "Play" selected file
* -> immediately, selected file starts to play.
--> FF, Time Search, etc. is possible with PCH remote control, ...
(in case of Serviio, file does not play: after 30 sec PCH message "Could not play",
then PCH returns to "Network Sources")

You see, I do not know if Plex has a specials profiles (comparable to Serviio profiles) or special 'output doors' (sorry for my basic english). I never looked under Plex's hood!

All I see, that it woks now (it did not work last year).

I can offer you to visit my computer via teamviewer if it could help to solve the problem.

Re: popcorn subtitles

On my Plex server, the profiles are all contained in C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Resources\Profiles. These are selected automatically: you can't select a profile like you can with Serviio. In my install, there is a file called Popcorn Hour.XML. That should be the file Zip wants.

Hi atc98092,

Thanks for your advice! :)
May I ask you another favor? I would like to learn why PCH is so special. Older servers seem to support it well, newer servers don't.
Example:
old: Nero MediaHome 4 (2009) is ok,
new: Nero MediaHome 12 (2014) is not ok (btw: its a nightmare anyway, without asking for user's permission, spys the whole pc as part of its installation procedure, nsa couln't be quicker and bolder!)

Exception:
older Plex (2013) was not ok, newer Plex (2014) now works ok with PCH.

But, all servers support folder and file browsing and selection in PCH GUI out of their media libraries. Communication regarding library content obviously works.
Unfortunately, the more important part, playing and navigating in the timeline of a selected video and audio file does not work.

Could you, please, explain these unexpected facts? What's the causing this strange problem?

@zip
you've got pm.

Re: popcorn subtitles

Well now, you're asking me something I know nothing about. I had never heard of PCH before this thread. I just looked at my Plex installation to see where the profiles are stored :D .

You might ask why I have Plex installed as well as Serviio. That is because until very recently Roku media players did not support DLNA, and Plex was the only way I sould use them. Plex has some great things, but DLNA wasn't one of them. However, that has recently changed, and Roku Media Player now supports DLNA. Of course, it has a very limited list of formats it will play without transcoding. If your videos are not MP4, or MKV with H.264 encoding, then it requires transcoding. My main server has the power to handle it with no issues, but my test server can't keep up with some of my HD video. That said, I may still keep Plex running, because it's the only thing I can make work with my Windows 8 phone. I can play everything I have on my phone via Plex (using the Plex phone app). Just have never been able to get a DLNA player for my phone to work right.

Re: popcorn subtitles

Hi atc98092,

Thank you so much for guiding me to the profiles. :)

PCH is to me what Roku is to you.
Therefore, may I also keep Plex installed until Serviio will serve to my PCH. But I would like to turn transcoding off and can't find a Plex GUI option to turn it off.

May I ask you the off-topic question how it could be achieved by tweaking a Plex profile, i.e. the PCH profile?
I would be very happy about a PM answer.

I sincerely hope that Zip will find and implement a solution for Serviio PCH support soon.

Regards
