UHD/4K support

Is there any 4K/UHD support in Serviio? If not, can you add this (soon)?

I believe the latest versions of FFMPEG support H.265, which is the codec used for most 4K video. Of course, the TV would need to support 4K over DLNA, and that's not a given. I'm not sure Samsung knows how to spell DLNA, based on the issue I'm having with simple MPEG2 video playback. There should be no issue with the audio, so it's completely dependent on the video codec support of the TV. If the TV doesn't support H.265 over DLNA, then transcoding is the only option, and that may downgrade the quality.

I have no idea if Serviio has any other issues with 4K. While I have a UHD TV, I have no local 4K files to attempt it with. What sort of files were you considering playing? Do you have the media info for one? I have some software at work that I believe is capable of saving a video in H.265, so maybe I'll put a file on a thumb drive and make one for testing.

I answered you in your other post, but I believe it's not the fact it's 4K, but is being triggered by something in the profile you are using. You need to tell us the TV you are using and the profile selected.

Serviio is not broken, so there's nothing to fix. Every time a manufacturer changes something in their TV, profiles have to be modified to match. Since the Serviio developer does not have each and every version of TV available, it's up to the user community to make the changes. So, someone that understands profile development, and has a LG TV that needs a revised profile, can provide an update. With the Samsung TVs, we're still waiting for someone that understands it well enough.

When a player isn't recognized by Serviio, the generic profile is assigned by default. It transcodes nothing, but as you noted it still won't necessarily send through a file. It has to recognize the file as playable, which is what all the first lines of the profile identify. That's where my knowledge is lacking, as I don't understand the MediaFormatProfile lines. Once I figure them out, I can likely figure out how to do the rest.

I've seen a number of players that either identify themselves incorrectly (some Sony players) or don't identify themselves at all (Roku).

Thanks for the reply and the link. I have read the link but the issue here is not that the file does not display. It shows up on the TV in the library but when I try to play it on my LG 65UF850V 4K TV it says it cannot play the file.

I have also played the file via USB and it plays back in UHD on TV.

As mentioned before, USB and DLNA are two separate methods of playing files, and a TV may do one and not the other for a particular file. We probably need to see a detailed log of what's happening.

I see that it is being served without transcoding, but I don't see any error in that portion of the log. When you use DEBUG mode, there are far more lines for each process. I have a feeling that if there's any error it's further down the log. While there's a 500k size limit for attachments, I suggest uploading either the entire log, or at least as much as you can provide per the limit.

Ive done it again, the full file is 70 meg so that isnt happening. Ive loaded the file on the TV and clicked go. It then says it cant play it.
