Does Serviio work with Plex Media Server?

I am having problems getting Plex Home Theater media player to work, so I thought I'd try Serviio but I need to know if it will work with Plex Media Server because that's where all my movies are stored. If there is a better solution, I'm happy to entertain all suggestions. Thanks!

Serviio and Plex do the same thing (in general) so no, they don't work together. There's nothing that one can provide the other as far as functionality. You can run both on the same computer and use the same media locations (I do).

If you question is can they play nice together on the same computer, the answer is yes. But your computer should have enough power for both, so don't try it on an older low power PC. You'll be fine if the files don't need transcoding, but once that's necessary you run out of power fast.

This thread is quite old, and really is for something different that you are experiencing. All I can say is that I have Serviio and Plex running together on the same computer without any issues. I can connect to Plex from the Internet using my Roku Stick, and I can also access Serviio using MediaBrowser if desired. So there's nothing inherent that interferes with each other on the same computer. I even have two different computers with Plex and Serviio on both, and Plex can be accessed remotely from both computers. That's a function of Plex connecting through their own servers. I don't have port forwarding set up on my second Serviio PC, because my Internet DSL modem doesn't support port forwarding using different internal and external ports.
