vmware problem (AND SOLUTION)

Hello all,

I've just installed the latest vmware Workstation software to test it.

Just after doing that serviio has not been able to detect the TV.
Of course the TV can't see Serviio neither...

I have set the NIC card in the "status" tab of the serviio console to the specific IP address of the physical NIC in my PC.

At the end, after searching the Internet a Little bit and reading that post in the same serviio forum: http://forum.serviio.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7197 I've ended up with disabling both virtual network cards that VMWare installs. After doing that I'm running again, but I would like to be able to use both software at the same time.

Windows 7 here and serviio 1.3.1.

Any idea or advice?

Under windows 7 (probably vista and 8 too) Serviio stops working after installing VMWare (Serviio still Works as always but Windows is preventing it to work as expected).

This happens as the two virtual NIC (virtual Network adapters that VMWare installs) set the new connection to “Unidentified network”.

To solve that there are two options:

1. Disable both network adapters.
2. Modify some parameters into windows registry.

In that post I’ll explain the second option.

Steps to avoid the Unidentified Network for VMWare NICs:

1. Open Windows registry ==> Win+R ==> REGEDIT
2. Navigate to this key: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3. Navigate through the folders inside the previous key until you'll find an entry called "VMNet". (there will be one for each virtual NIC). You can also search for that entry using the find commands in the Edit menu.
4. Add a new DWORD 32 bits value and name it *NdisDeviceType. Don't forget the * as it is needed.
5. Set its value to 1
6. Repeat steps 3 to 5 until both NICs are updated.
7. Close regedit.
8. Disable and reenable both NICs.
