Serviio and Apple Music (iTunes) streaming

Hi, I have been looking around to see if this has been asked before because I find it hard to believe that I would be the first, but I am using Serviio Server on my Windows 10 PC and it communicates well with my Sony Bravia KD-55X8509C (2015) smart TV via my 5GHz VirginMedia Wi-Fi home network.
I have an active Apple Music subscription but I haven't yet managed to listen to any streamed music in "My Music" (in iTunes) via the Sony TV (and connected Bose Theatre Sound System) and can only play albums or tracks which have been physically downloaded to my PC. Would anyone expect me to be able to listen to any streamed music in "My Music" which is not downloaded (which is the vast majority)?
I am just curious as to the possible limitations of what music I should expect to be able to listen to via this method. I can actually play anything from "My Music" account via the Bose system when that is connected directly to my iPhone so what I am asking for is not critical but I would love to know if I am missing a detail here. Hope you can understand what I mean. Many thanks. Alan.

Re: Serviio and Apple Music (iTunes) streaming

I'm not familiar with Apple music, but I'll throw an idea out. Most streaming services require some sort of login authentication, and Serviio does not have that functionality. It might be possible to for plug-in to be configured to connect, but then you have the potential issue of DRM. It's possible (again, I have no experience with it) that Apple Music requires a connection via an Apple product (iTunes, phone, pad or TV), and non-Apple products may not be permitted to stream.

The more as I know is to use [removed] to convert iTunes music from M4P to MP3 format. As we know all iTunes audios are encrypted with fairplay DRM protection, it can be played on Apple devices only. If you want to want to play all these audio on any devices freely, you may have to get rip of DRM protection at first. This [removed] is for all iTunes users to convert audio at faster speed with zero loss quality at 30x faster speed with zero loss quality.

Torence, iTunes music is NOT DRM protected. They removed that a number of years ago. Yes, video still contains DRM, but not audio. I can play music from iTunes on any device.

As far as I know, Apple Music is encrypted with DRM and it limits you to stream on Sony TV. The best way to solve this problem is using a DRM removal to (URL removed by admin) and the removal should be able to convert to Apple Music to MP3 so that you can stream on any devices.

No, Apple removed all DRM from their music almost 10 years ago. You can play them on any device. Converting it is not necessary.

Re: Serviio and Apple Music (iTunes) streaming

Incorrect, apple music uses drm absolutely, I am listening to it right now and will upload the song I am listening too.

Try to play it, you can't because they use drm.

The file format is m4p. From google:

https://file.org/extension/m4p

I don't know where you get the idea that there is no drm for 10 years that is patently false!

Edit: It says extension m4p is not allowed when I attach.

Here is the ffmpeg -i:

  Code:
C:\Users\Office\Desktop>ffmpeg -i "C:\Users\Office\Desktop\0000000009709E9C-0000

Re: Serviio and Apple Music (iTunes) streaming

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4788743
"All songs offered by the iTunes Store now come without DRM protection. These DRM-free songs, called iTunes Plus, have no usage restrictions and feature high-quality 256 kbps AAC encoding.

If you have older iTunes Store purchases that are now available as iTunes Plus downloads, you may upgrade your existing purchases. To do so, visit the iTunes Store and follow the onscreen instructions."

I have over 100 tracks of iTunes music, and they will all play on any device without DRM issues. I'm not certain, but I believe that they did a mass update that removed the DRM from people's iTunes libraries. No idea what Apple did, but I took no action personally to remove the DRM. It was just gone.

I looked through my library and did discover four titles with M4P extensions. And yes, you are correct that they won't play. The remainder of my library is all M4A, MP4 or MP3, and they all play fine. So it does look like I have a few left from before the DRM was removed. But as Apple states in the quote above, all music is available free of DRM.

Here's an article from 2009 that shows how long ago it was removed: https://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/07/tech ... apple.html

Re: Serviio and Apple Music (iTunes) streaming

Thats great for you but op and myself are using apple music subscription service.

You log in and the itunes app caches m4p's as they stream and they are all heavily drm'd.

Would be great to hook serviio into it somehow to expand the service to more devices but probably impossible.

The thread has my grinding my teeth though because I see what you are saying, downloaded mp3's are not drm'd, but streaming m4p certainly are, and I feel OP on that because it's lame if you're paying for music you should be able to listen outside of itunes.

But someone needs to tell apple that. They call it fairplay drm lol doesn't sound very fair to me.

Completely agree, but Apple has never been known for being fair.

To merge Apple Music to Serviio, take it easy, just keep Apple Music Converter on your Mac or Windows computer and load your Apple Music and iTunes streams to this software, click the 'Convert' button and all Apple Music files will be converted as local files.
After that you can start to stream iTunes audio files like common audio tracks for Serviio. Can't believe it, but it's ture. Just do it to meet all needs.

This isn't necessary. iTunes music no longer contains DRM.
