Samsung UN55JS8500 no subtitles

Hello,
Im experiencing no subtitles issue with my Samsung TV. I've read a bunch of posts here and tried many of the suggestions and still can get it work. Hopefully the community can help.
Here is the issue...
I've got Serviio to work and I see all the files in SmartHub. I can play the videos with no issues. I can not find how to enable subtitles. When video is playing, there is a little gear icon in the upper right corner where are different options to change screen mode, audio output etc. There is no Subtitle option. I have tried several different files (some burned-in and some .srt file).
When I play those same files via VLC, subtitles work as expected.
TV has Captions ON in the Systems setting

Any help would be appreciated. Log file from Serviio can be provided as well as ffmpeg output

For Samsung, just:
- enable subtitles in the console
- disable burned-in subtitles
- disable embedded subtitles (if you have external srt file)

Then it should work. Make sure the .srt has the same name as the video file.

I checked the settings:
Enable subtitles is on
try to automatically detect encoding is on
extraction of text-based subtitles is off
burned-in subtitles is off
online subtitles is off

i also checked the profile and its using Samsung J series

I looked at the .srt files and the only difference is they have language indicator: "movie-name.ENG.srt"

still no luck with any of the movies.

what is a bit confusing to me, there is no "Subtitle" option in the Tools menu while movie is playing. I can change languages and screen mode etc but there is nothing about captions

if you're using the language identifier, you have to add the code (eng in your case) to the language code of subtitles on the Languages page in the console. Alternatively rename the srt not to include it.

I've added ENG (btw, it it case sensitive?) to "Languages"-"Preferred language of subtitles" and I do have English subtitles now!

The same movie also has RUS.srt and SPA.srt files but even if I change "Preferred language of subtitles" to "ENG,RUS,SPA" it only displays English subtitles. If I go Tools-Subtitles" while the movie is playing the Language section only has a single option "Language"

Yes, it just finds the first in order of your preference and serves that to the tv.
