I've Moved To Universal Media Server

Since Serviio was downgraded, I have found that Universal Media Server works a treat.
It has everything I want and it also has a tray icon with quick access.

And did I forget to say that it is completely free and just works straight out of the box? :)

What downgraded what does that mean?

Serviio has the console accessible from anywhere.

Serviio is free and works out the box for me...

What's the point of this?

Re: I've Moved To Universal Media Server

I too am puzzled by your reference to a downgrade. If you are referring to MediaBrowser no longer available after the trial period, that is one of the things you get with a paid license. But Serviio itself isn't downgraded.

I tried UMS in the past, and was not satisfied at all with its transcoding abilities. Perhaps it's been improved. But if it meets your needs, then have at it. Just don't think you'll get much support from most people here.

Oh good.
Can you please tell me how to get Serviio accessible from the tray?

Not quite what he said. True, the system tray icon no longer exists. For console access I simply have a shortcut on my browser favorites bar. Plus, you can access the console from any computer without installing anything, and if your firewall is configured for access you can connect to the console from anywhere on the Internet (don't do this myself). I consider this far more convenient than having the tray icon.

The only other thing the tray icon could do is shut down the Serviio service. I never found that useful, because I couldn't start the service from there, so I still had to either drill into the menu or open the Services applet. The only reason I ever needed to stop the service was because I modified the profiles file, and that means I needed to restart it as well. I guess you could use the icon as an indicator that Serviio was running, but since I've never had an issue with it running on startup, again it wasn't particularly valuable to me. Your mileage may vary, of course.
