No Subtitles in Mediabrowser and VLC for Android

Subtitles not shown on Serviio MediaBrowser and VLC for Android

Hi everybody.
I`m having a little Problem with Serviio, unable to find the solution by myself.
First sorry for my bad english, hope you will understand me.


I`m using the current and licensed Version Serviio 1.9 running on CentOS 7, up to date.
Using Serviio on my Samsung TV UE40ES5700 works fine, without any Problems, running like hell
(If exist) Burned in Subtitles are shown as expected, no Problems at all. Everythimg works like it should.

But if the same Movies is watched with the Mediabrowser, or with VLC for Android (Serviio is shown there similar to the TV), subtitles were not shown.
By watching the same Movie with VLC for Android using the smb-share, subtitles are present and working fine.

First i checked the Serviio settings under Delivery/Subtitles.
Enable subtitles is active
Try to automatically detect subtitle character encoding is active / UTF-8
Enable burned-in subtitles is active

Checking language settings
Preferred language of audio and subtitles are ger,german,de,deu (because i`m German and that is the language the subtitles are burned in)

Transcoding is enabled

Then go to the Movie checking the file.

So for now, i have no idea what the reason is, subtitles were not shown playing the files with the Mediabroser or VLC for Android.

Did you check the ''Enable extraction of text based subtitles' option on the subtitles tab in console?

Meanwhile i rebuild Version 1.9 in a virtual machine on Ubuntu Server 16.04.3, Windows 7 and an fresh installed CentOS 7, in all cases no forced Subs in the MB, watching the Movie with a Windows and a Linux Client. I've downloaded some files with forced subs from the List of test media files http://forum.serviio.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=608, watching them in the MB without success, no forced subs visible.
Checked ''Enable extraction of text based subtitles" option on the subtitles tab in console. After this the CPU consumption is near 100% ( caused by ffmpeg processes) and i could choose between none and default subs. Checked default subs without a change in behaviour.
Found another issue (hlsjs: Video file not found) as described here http://forum.serviio.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=23938, so i rolled back to Version 1.8, same issue there.
It's enough to drive you mad!

Some good news so far.
Fresh installed Debian in a Virtual Machine running ffmpeg version 3.2.5-1 (instead 2.6.8 on CentOS7) with checked ''Enable extraction of text based subtitles" option on the subtitles tab in console shows burned in subs in MB an no "hlsjs: Video file not found" @ this time
I will change the OS my Home server is working with and will report.

Tried now Serviio 1.9 with Debian 9.1 with build in ffmpeg version 3.2.5-1 and burned in subtitles are now shown as expected with the checked option ''Enable extraction of text based subtitles".
Still having the Problem with the MB "hlsjs: Video file not found" on a large amount of videofiles. Many files must be started a second time in MB to solve this.

Working now with Version 1.8 again. No Problems there with "hlsjs: Video file not found" and also burned in Subtitles were shown.

At last there is only one issue with Android VLC, that tried to play Videofiles with burned in subs and active Option ''Enable extraction of text based subtitles" as a Audiofile. Not shure if this a Bug in VLC or not
I use the smb:share to play this files.

1.8 was using Flash player, 1.9 uses HTML5, so it transcodes to a different format.

Detailed logs of when playing the file with 1.9 might help.

Ok, i've updated now from Version 1.8 to 1.9, instead a new install. Movies in MB stating now correctly, hlsjs: Video file not found seems to be gone

Problems with VLC for Android and burned in Subs are solved.
I`ve installed ServiiGo from Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.serviigo&hl=en) and change there the Profile to Enhanced x264, now VLC plays the Videofiles with Subtitles

So everything is fine now.
