After random time serviio stops responding

I run serviio on a dell poweredge 2950, 4x hdd raid10 setup. Have been for a year or so with relatively no issues I can't solve.

Now I have a tough one, on server startup everything runs fine and fast. After a seemingly random amount of time Serviio stops responding and nothing can connect to it. The console just loads a big blank window. Using task manager to restart the Serviio service only fixes the problem temporarily for after some time it just does this again.

I only experienced these issues after upgrading from 1.8 to 1.9. Thinking there might be a bug or incompatibility I downgraded and guess what, now 1.8 is having the same issues.

I have upgraded once again after uninstalling serviio completely but this is really frustrating when my daughter screams that Frozen doesn't work lol.

I have uploaded my logs after a fresh install of serviio 1.9, they are attached to the post.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Zip will have to answer of those errors in the log mean anything. But what version of Windows are you running? It looks like Windows 10, but is it Home or Pro?

Oddly enough it's been connecting in today... Maybe it's just my ISP or even the router being questionable.

Those user data update and Java errors, what are they and is it something I can fix? Would make future problems easier for me to solve if hose are gone.

I thought maybe it was my ISP but I'm still having issues. Serviio runs but after random amounts of time it just stops responding. Nothing can connect and the console loads a blank window. Further, the service shows it is running. Using the shortcuts installed in the start menu to stop and start the sever do not work, on restarting the service in the task manager fixes it. But again, after sometime it just does it again. My OP has the logs.

I don't know what to do and am considering another dlna server as serviio is too problematic. I really like serviio and really appreciate any help I can get.

Before giving up, I'd suggest uninstalling Serviio, ensure the folder is gone, reboot, then reinstall. I run Serviio on both Windows 7 and 10 without issue, so there's nothing specific with Windows. Also, just so you know, Serviio uses its own version of Java on Windows, so you never need to worry about what version is installed on your computer (if any).

do you use MediaBrowser a lot? and is everything unresponsive? Console, mediabrowser, dlna clients?

Windows 10 on a dell poweredge 2950 II with 4x 1tb hard drives setup in a raid10. I've tried uninstalling and ensuring the entire folder structure and all files are gone nearly 13 times now it feels like. Nothin makes a difference. The service shows it's running. Yet the console is unresponsive and if left open long enough will time out saying as such and that serviio isn't running.

I use mediabrowser only to test that something was added to the library. The sony TV accepts the dlna stream from serviio, always has out of the box which was great.

Yes, when serviio becomes unresponsive every facet stops responding. Mediabrowser, serviiodroid, serviioGo, and the stream on our TV do not show up or do not respond at all. It's acting as if there is no internet even though the service itself shows it's still running. "Cannot connect to the server, it doesn't seem to be running...". Restarting the service restores functionality and connectivity... for a while.. it always does it again after random amounts of time. From what I can tell, everytime I get the error updating userdata is when it becomes unresponsive. But that may just be coincidence?

Further, I had my ISP send out a technician on the chance it was my internet causing some issues... nothing was found, all seems to be okay in our lines and router/modem.

Wanted to add, regressing down to 1.8 again doesn't solve my issue. I haven't changed anything on this server hardware or software since upgrading from 1.8 > 1.9. This is driving me nuts trying to figure out what has happened.

I could try a system restore, if I have any set points from a month~ ago.

I've resorted to scheduling a windows task to run a batch file that stops and starts the service on an every 15min basis. And now when for some reason it fails to restart the service, it somehow manages to run two instances of it, causing the first not to ever restart at all without killing serviio completely and running it again. I could have it restart the machine if it fails to restart, but that's not a solution by any standards.

This is beyond silly. I may very well have to find something not-java to replace serviio. :/

Talking to myself but maybe someone somewhere someday will know a fix.

So restarting the service every 15min works well for keeping serviio actually functional for my phone, computer, and tablets.... but the TV doesn't like it. About 3 seconds after the windows task restarts the serviio service my TV says connection lost. Guessing the TV can't buffer enough ahead of time to compensate quick connection loss.

Back to square one. Maybe serviio 1.5 works still >.>

I use it almost daily streaming 1080p music videos to my tv across a wireless bridge. It runs from 100baseT > wireless bridge > nighthawk x8 router to the TV. I've had maybe 2 or 3 times where network drops, but it runs for hours on end.

My question to you, is your router firmware the latest and greatest? Do you know if anything like a virus scanner or malware scanner starts to run when the outage happens?

Just curious, is there any "other" computer than can replace your current master server just to see if its your network vs. possible an unknown issue with the main server your having troubles with?

As it happens I just figured out the issue in the last couple of hours.

It is windows 10 IIS, specifically web management tools. I was playing around with running a small website, something very basic to show if what I run on my servers is online. A landing page where I can poll any services I run to make sure away from home everything is online. It seems windows built in IIS was the culprit. It was THE ONLY thing I had changed in the last month my self.

As soon as I unsinstalled the web management tools by turning off the windows feature, BAM all my serviio problems are gone.

I would be greatly interested to know what IIS does that could cause something like that, considering the website it allows you to run defaults to port 80...

Maybe changing the service priority from programs to background services would possibly allow both to co-exist? I don't have any IIS enabled which may be why I don't see it.

I can't see why any decent machine couldn't support both....but glad you got it fixed.
