Most electronic file lists will sort by the first letter, unless that happens to be a 'A', or the word 'The" and one or two other exceptions. If you think way back to when libraries had index cards, they would be listed like this. A title like "A Letter to Three Wives" would be cataloged as "Letter to Three Wives, A", or "The Time Machine" would be "Time Machine, The".
