ok, some more info...
will atach a log when get home, meanwhile...
the connection is all wired - both the PC and the TV ( by the way it's the samsung ua40c6200 - and the profile was detected and set correctly ) connected to to the same router
the files are located at the same local directory on the PC (there are directories in Library which are on external HD via firewire - not sure it has anything to do with this)
temporary folder has more then enough free space (~70GB)

in addition, a couple of times the whole serviio source became unavailable on the TV while watching a video - came back by itself after a few seconds, but it was too fast so i couldn't notice anything wrong

from what i gathered... file with id=24550 played for ~14 minutes then automatically started the next one
hope this will shed some light

what device is on this IP 10.0.0.5 ( kinda strange ip to what router are u using) as it bombarding serviio with m-search requests 42+ in one second ?

well... kinda as expected it is a Windows 7 laptop - it has no serviio on it, and no media that serviio looks at, but it has windows media player's library and upnp support, so from what i gather it is bombarding the serviio on the network with m-search requests like crazy
how do i turn it off? or protect serviio from it?

another thought i had is the netgear router i have - it also has some kind of upnp settings - i left it on default which is AdvertisementPeriod of 30 min. and AdvertisementTimeToLive of 4 hops - could this be related in any way?

On the windows laptop, you can disable the windows media DLNA server.

Here is a pretty good site on how the DLNA server works on windows 7. It gives enough information to disable it.

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/e7/archive/2009/05/12/media-streaming-with-windows-7.aspx

Another thing that I noticed is the 10.0.0.x IP addresses you are using.

  Code:
Definition: The IP address 10.0.0.1 is a default for some types of network routers including Cisco brand routers. This address may also be used by network servers.
10.0.0.1 is sometimes called a default gateway address as it typically represents the local side of a router's connection to the Internet. 10.0.0.1 is more commonly found in business networks than in homes, which tend to use routers having default addresses in the 192.168.x.x series. Both the 10.x.x.x and 192.168.x.x series are private IP address ranges.

For students: in classful IP networks, 10.0.0.1 is a class A address with default subnet mask 255.0.0.0.

This could be causing issues because the network packets, I think are going into the local side of the router being processed and then back out of the router. Instead of going through the router straight to the DLNA render.

For example My serviio computer is 192.168.2.14 and my renders are 192.168.2.19, 192.168.2.4, 192.168.2.11 .

Edited: added link to windows 7 media streaming so you can disable it.

+1
Same configuration for me. router is on 192.168.1.1 and is used as DNS for all renderers/devices web access.

thanks,
the netgear router has the ip of 10.0.0.138 and assignes by dhcp addresses starting from 10.0.0.1 - so my serviio pc got it this way. i will try to change the dhcp range to exclude the 10.0.0.1 as it indeed might be causing extra traffic.

tbh, not really remember now how it was solved, but i remember disabling the media sharing on other devices on the network - maybe it did the trick
also i am now using a different router then back then - it has different upnp settings perhaps which i remember playing with when it didn't work

Remains to change the switch...

I change the switch, no use.
Attach the last minute log file. Some ideas?
