Please test: does VMWare disrupt Serviio..?

Hi,

I was running Serviio without problems for a long time. At the time I installed VMWare it simply stopped working. Coincidence?

Can somebody test if Serviio still works after running VMWare? In the Virtual-Machine Settings I use as 'Network Adapter' NAT: Used to share the host's IP address. Somehow Bridged Cennected to the physical network didn't work.

Can somebody reproduce this problem? Serviio stopped being visible to devices after I installed/run VMWare.

Thanks,
sb

Have you forced serviio to bind to your real NIC rather than the virtual ones added by VMWare?

What's a NIC and how do I force to Serviio to use the right one?

Thanks,

Network card, you use the bind ip address field in the console. Look under network connections and find the one that is connected that doesn't mention VWMare, e.g. Local Area Connection, double click, select status, and copy the IP address.

I run vmware workstation on my pc along with serviio, no problems.

Can you be a bit more specific on your problem?
Do you run serviio in an vmware virtual environment or just on the same os along with vmware?

My guess is that he installed VWWare which setup some virtual network cards, and Serviio decided to bind to one of them.

Re: Please test: does VMWare disrupt Serviio..?

I am running Serviio and VMWare on Linux (Ubuntu 12.04). Before VMWare starts it want to install several modules into the running kernel. I thought maybe that srews up Serviio.

I just tested running Ubuntu with a slightly older kernel where VMWare had nothing installed. Still not working.

I already force binded Serviio to my WLAN IP: 192.168.178.25
Still not working.

I am somehow out of ideas. In the FAQ is written that it could be multicast problems with Linux. I tried to do what they suggested but then the complete network was down after a restart.

I run Serviio on a Windows virtual machine hosted on a VMware ESXi server.

I've never had any issues with this setup.
