Re: problems windows 8 and serviio

Same issue here! Serviio Pro 1.0.1 was working fine under Windows 7. Once I upgraded to Windows 8 - I can no longer see Serviio from any of my devices (TVs, phone, tablet, WDTV, local computer etc.). Checked firewall settings and these are the same as in Windows 7. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling Serviio, but no luck so far. Thankfully Mezzmo still works fine in Windows 8, so I have a back up for now. Interestingly I can connect to Serviio via Serviidroid on my phone to administer it, but that's about it. Thanks in advance for any help!

And what about Java installation... could you check that.

Re: problems windows 8 and serviio

I reinstalled Java Version 7 Update 9, restarted Serviio and still can't see the server. There is a note on the Java site that states:

"Downloading and installing Java will only work in Desktop mode on Windows 8"

However, even if I used Desktop mode, I still cannot see Serviio from any devices.

Re: problems windows 8 and serviio

I'm having the same problem. I thought it was a firewall problem as well but twonky, link+ and Windows built in dlna server are visable over the network.

Minecraft has been quitting to desktop as well. I think there might be a java issue on windows 8.

Re: problems windows 8 and serviio

I have the same problem. Tried everything from reinstalling Serviio and Java. Even tried older versions of Serviio.

Serviio just doesn't wanna show on my device (samsung c650), nor shows up in the network list on the computer itself. Checked all the firewall settings, but all seems fine. Really sucks, because I want to see my media on my TV, not on my computer!

Re: problems windows 8 and serviio

I am having the same issue. Windows 8 Pro, clean install, running maybe a week. Java 7 update 9. I had absolutely no issues with Serviio before this, on Windows 7 Pro, Windows Server v1, and many different flavor of Linux (well, I had issues on Linux, but they were Linux issues ;) ) and many different versions of Serviio. Was running 1.0.1 successfully untill Win8, now it just sin't seen on the network by any device, even my Android running ServiiDroid won't connect to it.

Here is my detailed log, from just before the restart and on. I don't see anything odd here, but you're the expert! There are some bad images in my library, apparently, but other than that...

Re: problems windows 8 and serviio

my computer will install the java runtime 7 that had the 6 that never gave me problems when using Windows 7, and as usual you can not see serviio UPnP server so java is not the problem.

Has this been resolved ??

I am looking at getting a Dell with Windows 8 to run Serviio ... maybe run it in a VM under windows XP ?

I bought a DELL with Windows 8 on INTEL-i7, install Java and Serviio without problems (simply have to set admin user on serviio service, like my previous Windows XP setting)

Re: problems windows 8 and serviio

Can you clarify how you did this? It doesn't seem to matter which user this service runs under, Serviio simply does not show on my network. Plex Media Server and Universial DLNA Server (or whatever it's called) both display fine. I really love Serviio, and prefer to use this one. It is the best I've found so far.

Something I find odd, is my DLNA devices show up in the Serviio Console, so it CAN see the network, but other devices just can't see it...

Re: problems windows 8 and serviio

I should add as well, that like the other users with this issue, I have disabled my firewall, with no change. I have disabled Plex to see if this was blocking or conflicting somehow (Plex wasn't even installed when this issue first became apparent) with no change either. I can see all other devices on my network, so this certainly isn't a networking issue. I had been running the most current Java under Windows 7 as well, so this seems to be something specific with Serviio and Windows 8.

Re: problems windows 8 and serviio

Progress!

In Windows 8, you have to enable the default administrator service. Do this by opening an elevated command prompt and running the following command:

net user administrator /active:yes

You should then set a password for this user for your own safety. This user will now appear under the Users control panel as a local account.

Next, open the Management Console (right click on My Computer, click Manage or search it in "Metro").

Services & Applications -> Services, find the Serviio service -> right click -> Properties -> Log On

Choose "This Account" and enter "Administrator" for the user, then enter the password you should have set for this user, twice.

Stop the Serviio Server within Serviio Console, then stop the Serviio service.

Start the Serviio service, then start the Serviio server.

I also bound my computer's IP within Serviio, however this doesn't seem to make a difference as I only have 1 IP on this box.

Now Serviidroid sees and can manage Serviio. My xBox sees it, but cannot connect, and my PS3 cannot see it at all, though.

Re: problems windows 8 and serviio

Could you :
- enable detailed logging (see signature)
- stop serviio service
- start serviio service
- post log

For my setup:
- install java 7
- download serviio, install serviio
- In metro search "cmd" to launch a windows terminal execute "services.msc", rigth click "properties" on serviio service, connection tab, set the account with ILLICO/admin value, I have to do this to have access to my remote shared network disk.

My detailed log is on the first page of this thread, but I am happy to do it again if it helps.

Re: problems windows 8 and serviio

SOLVED

Previously, in Windows 7, I never ran HomeGroup. I simply shared my content in the classic fashion.

As a troubleshooting step, I enabled HomeGroup sharing on my Windows 8 box, and Serviio is now seen on the network by all devices.

I find this odd, as other DLNA servers such as Plex were showing up just fine, just as Serviio had in Windows 7.

I was also able to set the service to run under the system service again, so the issue is and was, that HomeGroup sharing needs to be enabled in Windows 8 for Serviio to be seen by devices on the network. I think the previous issue I had with ServiiDroid not seeing it was just my own stupidity.

Yes, it's also enabled on mine, I did not notice that. I remember now, that on first windows 8 start, it asked if we want to enable sharing, answer was : yes.
Thanks, topic solved.
