Streaming from a Nas

First of all apologies if this is a double post, but I couldn't find anything that referenced this.

I have a simple question that I hope someone can answer.

I have just installed the software on my WHS v1 to replace its current DLNA setup, it works great. I also have a nas that I am thinking running through the software. I have a Readynas NV and I am just going to point it to the correct UNC path. That's all fine, but my query is does Serviio just point the client, xbox or tv, to the path on the nas or does it route all the traffic via the server.

I have all the transcoding off as I now all my media is fully supported.
