New to serviio--completely lost with mapped drives/folders

I've been asking for help on the avsforum and will simply post here what I've posted there...

I'm using serviio to stream my pc files to my new Sony BDP-S790. All the folders shared and were populated successfully on the Sony, except for all of my mapped drives. They show up in the Serviio browser list on the S790, but are empty. It says "no playable files". I have a desktop computer with multiple external hdds attached, and access these through my laptop with mapped folders.
I haven't been able to find instructions on how to resolve this problem.
I'm using "add local" for local folders, and "add path" for the mapped/shared folders. And I'm adding the path the same either way, eg
A local folder: M:\Movies
A remote folder: N:\Videos

Is there some other way I should input the path?

I've double and triple checked my sharing and security settings on the remote computer and all seems fine there. In addition, I've always had these folders mapped to the laptop so there has never been any issue accessing them. Also, I had no trouble setting up these folders with the PS3 Media Server I used to use...but I really prefer Serviio, and would hate to go back.

I'd be grateful for any help. Thanks!

I've tried changing serviio's logon from local system to "this account", in which I enter my username here on the laptop. I found that suggested here: http://supremetechs.com/2012/01/12/addi ... o-library/
It will take the name (I've found that if I input a name that doesn't exist or is somehow wrong, I'll immediately get an error and be unable to apply), but once I restart serviio with that new username, I get error: 1069. So I have to revert back to local system account. I've checked and unchecked "allow service to interact with desktop" and that has made no difference. Then I thought maybe the user name I need to enter is the one on my remote computer, since that's where these problematic drives and folders reside, but it wouldn't accept that user name at all.
I've also tried inputting the remote drives in several ways, eg:

add local: I:\
add local: \\LION\My Book (L)
add path: I:\
add path: \\LION\My Book (L)

Those four are all the same drive. If I get the address by going into the drive via mapped, I get the the I:\ address. If I go into the drive under network, I get the \\LION\My Book (L) address. This is just one example--applies similarly to all my mapped/remote drives/folders.

I always force refresh afterwards and wait to see if files will start adding, but they never do. I've even left it alone for several hours to see if it at some point will start to add, but again nothing.

And I've found one additional problem. In at least one of the folders that I successfully added to serviio and shared to the S790, at least half the files within are not showing up. There are multiple subfolders within that larger folder--lots--and I wonder if that's the problem. Is there any limitation with folder depth or something similar? I removed the folder where I noticed this problem and am in the process of re-adding it, which takes some time. I'll know soon if that solved the problem. Otherwise, another mystery to me.

Update: No luck re-adding that folder. The majority of subfolders within the larger folder are still showing up empty. "There is no playable file." The files within are absolutely supported by serviio and the Sony, it's just not reading them or adding everything.
So stuck.

Re: New to serviio--completely lost with mapped drives/folde

My files (on remote drive) are not scanned
Make sure the user that runs Serviio server/service has got access to the shared folders. If you are on Windows, check that the user running the Windows service has got access. To run the service as a different user go to Services (from the Windows Control Panel → Administrative Tools or typing "Services.msc" in the Run command on Start menu), select Serviio, right-click -> Properties, Log On tab, enter the user's details and restart the service.

To access a NAS device the exact same set of credentials must be created on the NAS device. The Windows credentials must be a local user and not a domain user. The user must have "Run As Service" rights. The remote path must be entered as a UNC path in the Serviio Console (e.g. \\server\folder)), mapped drive letters will not work since the user running the Serviio service is not aware of your mapped drives.

Re: New to serviio--completely lost with mapped drives/folde

Yes, I read that before--it wasn't helpful. If someone can elaborate, then maybe I'll understand exactly what that means.

"Make sure the user that runs Serviio server/service has got access to the shared folders."
I assume that I do since I access these folders all the time. But how do I check this?

"If you are on Windows, check that the user running the Windows service has got access."
How?

"To run the service as a different user go to Services (from the Windows Control Panel → Administrative Tools or typing "Services.msc" in the Run command on Start menu), select Serviio, right-click -> Properties, Log On tab, enter the user's details and restart the service."
I tried that, as I explained previously. Wouldn't start up with my user name...error 1069.

Thought I'd give it another shot. Can anyone help me with mapped/remote folders?

Does your user have password? If not read this: http://www.serviio.org/component/conten ... ?id=21#q10

Re: New to serviio--completely lost with mapped drives/folde

Zip, thank you so much!!
Your instructions seem to have worked perfectly. I did not have a password for my account, and I guess that was the issue.
Before your response I uninstalled and reinstalled Serviio, being sure to clean up the registry as well, thinking that it may have gotten gummed up somewhere along the line. As a result, at least for the moment, my other issue seems to be resolved as well, which is that some folders with multiple subfolders were not showing all contents. With the few larger, parent folders I've added so far, all the contents in the subfolders are showing up now.

I do want to mention that Serviio seems to be currently stuck on adding one specific file at the moment, and I wonder if there are certain characters or something that Serviio may have trouble reading. The current file in question, which Serviio is stuck on, begins with a [ character and is an mp4. Mp4's usually add and play fine, so just curious. Some of the media details are:
MPEG4 VIDEO, ENCODER AAC (LC)
I'm sure there could be some other issue with the file itself, but if there are particular character or encoding handling issues, that might resolve a lot of future troubleshooting.
In the recent past, when I noticed that Serviio was stuck on adding a file, I simply moved that file out of the directory, at which point the adding of files resumed and all seemed well. And that worked just now as well. Moved the file out of the directory and the adding of files resumed.

At any rate, I'm so relieved to be making some progress with Serviio, thanks to your help. I've tried XBMC, Twonky, Plex Media Server, PS3 Media Server, and a couple others I think, and all had various issues such as not being able to play files properly (some HD files would look like tiny little flvs blown up to a huge size, ie, pixelated like crazy), and also intense cpu/ram usage which was really bogging down my productivity on the laptop. Serviio seems to draw less resources than any of the others, so this was the program I really wanted to get working for me.
THANK YOU!

Re: New to serviio--completely lost with mapped drives/folde

Oops, my mistake. I was misinterpreting what was going on in the file refresh. I thought it was stuck on a file, but in actuality it was just done hashing all the files, and was simpy showing the last file it processed. Look like everything is working just great.
Thanks again--I'm really grateful!
