Re: Cannot connect to Serviio server, it does not seem to be

Hi, I'm having the same problem but perhaps this can help: I unfortunately by mistake stroke the server option at bottom of the console and closed the page, and that's when it all went bad.

Everything was running perfectly well. But now there is no option for me to return to console and set the server to it's original setting.

Is there a way I can modify the console settings without it being opened, or perhaps is there a line of code I could temper with.

Thank you.

Re: Cannot connect to Serviio server, it does not seem to be

Hi

Ive used serviio for awhile now and from my experience is the best out there. however lately ive had a drama and it hasn't been solved by some of the things ive read here. I am a complete computer noob so any help would be greatly appreciated, im on windows 7 have the latest java updates and at random serviio started to not open. I have done the usual uninstall serviio and jarva with no effect, also gave the serviio acess through my virus protection firewall because once I changed the antivirus software is when it stuffed up, but I don't know if that's coincidence or what. This is what my log reads

2015-08-13 12:43:26,349 INFO [ServiioConsole] Initializing Serviio Console

Again any advice is appreciated
cheers

This may sound DUMB, but how does one uninstall "all Java versions" when the only thing in my (windows 7) Uninstall Programs thing is Java 8 update 51 and the Java Platform... Are you saying uninstall those two things? i am on a shared network and my tv USED to connect to Serviio on my laptop through my Sony BluRay player. Now, my BluRay player only sees the other computer's Serviio and not mine, so i can't access the movies on my laptop which are different from their's. i have uninstalled Serviio, restarted the laptop, and reinstalled Serviio, but that didn't help. So, will uninstalling these two Java things help?

Re: Cannot connect to Serviio server, it does not seem to be

Hello

I'm using MAC OS X Yosemite 10.10.5.

Yesterday, I installed Serviio, and it worked very well.
After I restarted my computer, serviio has not worked anymore (Cannot connect to serviio server...).
Before this message, it appears a message by the OS, asking me to allow the program, and yesterdar it did't appear.
I can't get the log... I have already updated the java version.

Sorry about my english.

Re: Cannot connect to Serviio server, it does not seem to be

It looks like there's a database issue, as it says it cannot connect. Something may have gotten corrupted. My first suggestion is to reinstall Serviio, and if the problem remains then completely uninstall Serviio, ensure the files are all gone, then install again.

I've uninstalled Serviio and its files in the mac's library folder.
After that I've uninstalled Java from the system and reinstalled.
Then, it works!
In the first time I had only installed the new version of Java, without uninstall, and I had Not cleaned the Serviio files.

Thank you!

Re: Cannot connect to Serviio server, it does not seem to be

Your log indicates that Serviio could not create a database connection. This usually means a problem with the database. Sometimes a re-install will resolve the issue, and sometimes it requires a complete uninstall and re-install.

Need your log to see if it's the same issue. If so, the same advice. First try a reinstall over the top. Then uninstall and reinstall. There may be other ways to fix a DB error, but this is the easiest and fastest.

Actually the full uninstall (properly) worked. Im on Mac OS X, so IDK what caused the issue, but I followed in precise detail the proper uninstall steps for mac including using the Terminal commands, one I downloaded and installed 1.6 it came on.

NEW PROBLEM... Im not seeing all of my video files.

All this worked before, all I did was upgrade my hdd.

I have no problem seeing Serviio on my network or the internet. I can see some of the files.
But Not all the drives loaded up videos.

Is there a way to find out why its not seeing some of the drives?
I even added a few files to drives it did see properly, and its not showing those new files in Drives

Re: Cannot connect to Serviio server, it does not seem to be

Are the unseen files on a computer other than the Serviio PC? Remember that Serviio by default runs as a local service and does not have rights to network assets. I'm unsure how to change that on a Mac, but if you change the user name that the service runs under, it will then be able to access anything on the network that you can access under your user account. If they are local drives, again make sure that Serviio has read rights to the location(s).

They are local drives on the network.

The system is working better in stages, but I don't have a clue what Im doing to make it work better! More than likely Im doing something that is having an EFFECT of making it work.

Whatever the situation was, all videos now show up, except the latest ones Ive added in the last few days.
However..once I hit Force Refresh, it found those videos too.

So it sounds like its not auto refreshing the library.

On a mac, you can change permissions on drives based on the User, Me, and/or Everyone. I don't think that has solved the problem.

Is there a specific place I can go to look for the issue of auto-refreshing?

By the way..fantastic software. For a Mac, this is a godsend. Until apple gives us MKV support on apple TV/itunes/etc, something like this is required for home use.

But to be able to watch my videos anywhere...thats just plain awesome. worth every penny.

Re: Cannot connect to Serviio server, it does not seem to be

I can't help much with a Mac, sorry.

A drive on the network is not local. Local means it's actually connected directly to the computer via USB, SATA or PATA cable. That's why I mentioned network permissions. From my Windows experience, even granting Anyone access to a network drive does not mean a local service on your computer has access rights.

However, since the videos are now appearing, there's likely not a permissions issue. I know there's something you can change in the Serviio configuration to force a different kind of drive polling, but I don't have it handy right now. There's likely a link to it further down this posting, or look for other posts that mention not refreshing.

Well, Zip is the author of the program, and he may well have more knowledge of Macs. I'm just another user that happens to know something about Windows and networking. :D

Re: Cannot connect to Serviio server, it does not seem to be

Hi there,

I have Serviio installed on my Mac, I just recently switched to a new Netgear router and by coincidence or not I now get the message "cannot connect to Serviio server, it does not seem to be running..." I have gone in and followed the instructions to uninstall and then reinstall, I have also follow the instructions to end the server and start the server through Terminal. Same result is that I cannot get Serviio to run. Please let me know what else I should try, I also do not know how to get a log. If someone can tell me how to get the log I will include that as well.

Thanks
