Testing with LN40B650 LCD TV

HI,

Just to report my experience with serviio interacting with this TV. I used PC share manager since I bought the TV, my main usage is Movie streaming from my PC with the TV connected by wire to the router and the PC (on Win7) connected wirelessly to the router. My movies are on an external USB HDD connected to the PC

So far, MKV container with 1080P H.264 + AAC work good. Subtitles streaming also (.srt). My only issues was that I had to force Serviio to Samsung WiselinkPro under Render Profile to make it work. Leaving it to Auto detect wasn't working.

I'll follow on my tests. No FF/REW support over DLNA but this is a Samsung firmware issues (uberly annoying), btw does it work with another container/codec? just wondering.

So far I love that DNLA server. Congrats Zip! I was looking for a replacement of theur PC MEDIA SHARE for months!

Re: Testing with LN40B650 LCD TV

Yeah, autodetect doesn't work for the Samsung (as stated on serviio.org), because the TV doesn't send enough information to identify itself.

FFWD worls with certain containers/codecs, but not MKV.

It seems someone did not do his homework good enough then! I missed that part.

Do you have a list of which container/coded do support REW/FF in order to do some testing?.

No, would be useful if someone tried all different types of files and put it into a table.... maybe someone has done it before, not sure.

Re: Testing with LN40B650 LCD TV

I have an issue. Or I think it's an issue.

When navigating the menus on the TV, sometime it becomes unresponsive. It happens more ofter when entering a folder. And even worse when I'm on the Series Menu and I open a full season of some serie.

What serviio does when I do this? does it rescan the whole folder? this might explain why.

Could you turn on debug logging and post the bit when you try to open the series folder?

Also when I stop the playing of a file, it takes seconds before letting me choose something else.

And btw what the "**"mean after a folder name or a file name?

Re: Testing with LN40B650 LCD TV

From this log everything seems to be returned within a second.
The lag after you stop playing a file is caused by the same thing, it loads contents of the folder again.

The '*' marks last watched season/episode in the series category.

Re: Testing with LN40B650 LCD TV

Ok I see, I've used more often the Server this week end. Pretty much only to see H264 MKV with AC3 with SRT subs. Everything's fine, I just encountered a couple of issues, not reproducible.
- once, one of the video stopped after 20 sec playing and it returned to the folder menue.
- and the other is that the server was not found by the TV and I had to manualy shut it down and restart via the console.

Besides this all good stuff.

The only cons I see vs PCMS is that navigation though folders using PCMS is almost instantaneous, no that much loading time besides the one when you start playing a file. Could something be done to Serviio to improve this? and btw, when will you have V4 out?

Re: Testing with LN40B650 LCD TV

Does it happen to the movie always or was it one off? The TV is quite sensitive to some formats, I guess a slight network lag might have caused it as well.
I'll try to speed up the navigation, that's my priority.

0.4 is still in development, hoping to have another beta out in a week.
