Have a bulletproof network and Serviio works

TL;DR check hardware during serviio problem

So I was watching serviio, trying to, and getting cut off at maximum 30 seconds all day today. Turns out the new router I got is programed by the isp to speed throttle when it detects a nat or hardware firewall. It not only throttles wan but the lan speed and it was ruining serviio. Log said websocket disconnect or something like that over and over when playing this:

I put the dhcp pool on a different subnet and that seems to have fooled it enough to get back the speed I pay for but ffs. My point is check out your hardware. The sad thing is this equipment was major upgrade for me  just didn't count on being throttled without my knowledge and messing up my movies.

Serviio had a few problems in the beginning but now the only time I have a problem its on my end, something broken in the network that needs to be replaced or some chicanery like above.

If Serviio doesn't work all the sudden, start checking cables and the player and the host software and try and find out.

Re: Have a bulletproof network and Serviio works

My personal opinion: any router that impacts your internal network traffic is flawed. Whether by design, bug, or incorrect setting, that's just not right.

I have no idea if there are any settings you can alter to change this behavior, but I would certainly try. I have a suggestion that might help if you can't resolve it elsewhere.

I assume you are using the LAN ports on the router (and likely wireless as well) as your internal switch. I suggest adding another router and place it in Wireless Access Point (WAP) mode and use it as both your wireless connection and your network switch. Run a single Ethernet cable to your ISP router to access the Internet. This removes your ISP router from controlling your internal network. Not an inexpensive fix, I understand. But it would resolve any internal network issues. In fact, your ISP router could completely fail, but your internal network would remain functional. You could do most of the same with just a network switch, but that doesn't remove your wireless connection from the ISP router and could still cause issues with your wireless devices.

Re: Have a bulletproof network and Serviio works

You don't even know how right you are!

I have 4g unlimited and a broadband router with voice, basically a box with a sim card and voip capability.

ISP considers this a hotspot in their legalese and hotspots are limited to 10 machines (in firmware) and data is limited to 10gb a month and when I go over it is slowed to 3g speed (dialup).

And dialup is the only other internet that reaches me, and sat. So I am bummed about it and serviio can't go online for me to stream.

Whatever so I download on my phone.

I got this movie today was very very excited to watch it:

This is from a stream. There is no sound and it's drm encrypted..................................................................

6.5gb of my phone data (also unlimited but they'll slow that down too) to get this thing I am not giving up. Heard bento4 can unscramble it if you have the crypto key. So I'll get that and the aac audio stream and remux and I will have my damn movie!

So happy serviio works that's my point because every other angle of my internet and video getting / watching set up is terrible. If I had a hardline internet I can only imagine what serviio could do.

Which router are you using? The one where all your LAN/WLAN stuff is connected to?

I'm going to cancel the service and sell it, they are limiting me to 3g speed so just going to hotspot my phone for internet and have a Linksys or Cisco router laying around I'm going to use for lan and be done with this torture.
