Re: Impossible to transcode E-AC-3 audio

Looking at the Sony 2013 profile (assuming you are using that one) I see that EAC-3 decoding is not configured for all container types. You didn't say what container your video is in, as you only posted the video section of the media info page. I only see it transcoding for MKV, AVI, FLV and WTV containers.

Re: Impossible to transcode E-AC-3 audio

Thanks for the update. I don't have any videos with EAC-3 audio, so I can't test this myself. Have to let Zip or someone with such a video to take a look.

Also, I suggest changing your logging to debug, attempt to play the video, then post the log file here. Then someone with a stronger understanding can check it for any issues.

You did it right, but it's only a portion of the log. Can you attach the complete log here? Zip will want to see some stuff that isn't included here. It's a simple text file, so you can zip the file and make it extremely small.

Re: Impossible to transcode E-AC-3 audio

Hi,

I have the same issue, with the same profile "Sony Bravia TV (2013/14)". Also using serviio version 1.9 (and 1.8 before that).

In the log, using debug mode, you get a few lines with:

2017-12-17 20:26:10,851 DEBUG [VideoDeliveryEngine] Delivering file 'Video.DDP5.1.x264.mkv' in native format

and nothing else about the details of the video file, which I guess means no transcoding at all.

The file details are a little bit different from the others shown in this thread:

Input #0, matroska,webm, from 'Video.DDP5.1.x264.mkv':
Stream #0:0: Video: h264 (High), yuv420p(tv, bt709, progressive), 1920x1080 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 1k tbn, 47.95 tbc (default)
Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: eac3, 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), fltp, 640 kb/s (default)
Stream #0:2(eng): Subtitle: subrip

Does anyone know how to identify which part of the profile matched so no transcoding of the eac3 audio was 'requiered'?

BTW in the serviio configuration transcoding is enabled, also downmixing to stereo.

The ffmpeg on the system doesn't have any problem transcoding the file, I'm actually using it to convert those files into something the Bravia can play (i.e. ffmpeg -fix_sub_duration -i Video.DDP5.1.x264.mkv -c:v copy -c:s copy -c:a aac -ac 2 Video.AAC.x264.mkv).

Re: Impossible to transcode E-AC-3 audio

Hello NOOB here,

can anyone offer a fix for my issue, i have been using Serviio pro for the last 5 years, just recently i have found i am unable to play certain files due to no sound, i use profile Sony BDP-Sx70/SMP-N100, the video players fine but im unable to lip read so cannot watch the file. could anyone offer advice on how to trouble shoot, turn on logging so someone more advance than i can interporate the logs?

mediainfo says the audio is E-AC-3

Re: Impossible to transcode E-AC-3 audio

So I was able to get around this issue on my Sony BDP

1. Find your profile being used, mine was this. <Profile id="bdp2010" name="Sony BDP-Sx70/SMP-N100 (2010)" extendsProfileId="bdp2012">
2. Find your profiles.xml file, make a backup copy
3. I inserted the following two lines at the end to try and cover two codecs I didn't see in the profile for transcoding right after </video> section.
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3" aBitrate="320" forceInheritance="true">
...
<Matches container="matroska" aCodec="aac" />
<Matches container="matroska" aCodec="eac3" />
4. restart serviio and test, worked immediately for me. EAC3 Seems to have shown up on the scene very recently so not surprising I needed to tweak an 8 year old profile but not my roku 4k profile.

Re: Impossible to transcode E-AC-3 audio

yes, it looks like the "Sony Bravia TV (2013/14)" could use some re-work. It transcodes eac3 for multiple files, but not where its an MKV file with h264 video.

To fix, edit the profile.xml file and in the "Sony Bravia TV (2013/14)" profile fin the line
    <Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" aCodec="flac" />
and directly below it add the line
    <Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" aCodec="eac3" />.

Save the file and restart your PC. This should work (I haven't the TV to test).

Re: Impossible to transcode E-AC-3 audio

I can confirm the entry from DenyAll gets the sound working in two channel, but do I have any chance to remux it to AC3 for multiple channel?

I use the profile "bdp2010". A file with "Stream #0.1(eng): Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, 6 channels, s16" will play fine as surround sound. The eac3 file with "Stream #0.1(eng): Audio: eac3, 48000 Hz, 6 channels, s16" only plays with stereo since adding:
<Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" aCodec="eac3" />

What tricksy can I do (my question pertains to within Serviio) can I do to also play eac3 as ac3 with multi-channel.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. I since worked out the Sony player decodes the 6 channels for AC3 itself i.e. there is no remux line present for AC3. If I add "<Matches container="matroska" aCodec="ac3" />" then Serviio also sends the file with 2.0. I still don't understand whether it is possible to transcode EAC3 on the fly and send the six channels. I fear a manual convert is needed or I need to buy a newer player?!

Re: Impossible to transcode E-AC-3 audio

I am a happy bunny and found how to do it. After many hours of trying settings in the profile like "aMultichannel="true"", then it is much more simple.

Under menu Delivery -> Video settings: Audio Channel I just needed to set the option "Keep Original" instead "Downmix to stereo".

So Serviio continues to rock as the best media server!

A small help improvement may be to reference this setting next to aMultichannel under help of the following (i.e. I wasted a lot of time on this!):

Re: Impossible to transcode E-AC-3 audio

So since I can confirm adding <Matches container="matroska" aCodec="eac3" /> works perfectly with profile "id="bdp2010", is there any chance to have this already added in the profile by default for the future? i.e. it would save an effort of editing and adding for users with that profile.

Thanks in advance!

Oh my - i just realized I found the same post as posted once before :lol: and answered myself!

Same confirmation here for EAC3 and same request that it could be added by default for the future to profile bdp2010.

Ty!

@Zip - since i have discovered this a second time, please add to the default profile - ty!

Possible to add this in the default Sony Bravia TV (2013/14) for next version? Works wonders for my little sony tv, thanks :)

I too have been waiting for this to be added to the sony bravia 13/14 profile, ive added it manualy and i save the file, but on a version update about 2-3 updates ago it would not work and i had to re edit the xml file.

in the mean time could someone create a user-profile.xml file for this as i cant get user-profile.xml to work, (dont know what to put in it)

also could we have a how to make a user-profile.xml guide

thank you

Re: Impossible to transcode E-AC-3 audio

User-profile.xml goes in the same config folder as the profiles.xml file. What you have to ensure is you have the proper header in the file. It should be like this before you add any personal profile:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<Profiles version="1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="http://www.serviio.org/xsd/profiles/v/1.10/Profiles.xsd">

Your profile goes in here

</Profiles>
