Windows Media Player 12 Profile

Are there plans to add a profile for Windows Media Player 12 at some point?

At present, WMP sees Serviio on the network but when you click on Serviio, it says there are no media files present.

I also noticed that. Is Windows Media Player completely non standard compliant (as a client) then?

Re: Windows Media Player 12 Profile

They expect particular IDs of the containers (e.g. music, artists), they don't claim they are DLNA, they are just UPnP - but AFAIK XBox is using the same IDs so it 'should' work

Re: Windows Media Player 12 Profile

I tried it just now but WMP can't see anything under either Video or Audio, so it looks broken.
Unrelated - we have a uPnP internet radio made by Revo and it can stream from Serviio perfectly!

Re: Windows Media Player 12 Profile

If WMP is a no-go then, are there any other windows based media players out there that DO support DLNA that would work with Serviio?

Re: Windows Media Player 12 Profile

Its not going to happen as WMP is not DLNA compliant. While it probably would be possible, it would require a lot of extra work.

XBMC or the new VLC 2.0 work well though.

For me, WMP 12 works if I set the DLNA profile in Serviio to XBox 360, for video at least, is all I've used it for.

My .2c :)

Have you thought about using the Serviio MediaBrowser? It works well on Windows PCs and many other devices also.
