Bug Report: pc nearly freezes when retrieving thumbnail

Hey guys,

This is more of a bug report, and not a request for assistant,
So it would probably 'benefit' 'zip' the most.

Here is the situation-

I'm currently downloading an mkv file straight to a directory that is watched by Serviio.

Serviio recognizes a file had been added and tries to retrieve thumbnail using FFMPEG.
I can see the following 2 lines in the log-
  Code:
2017-12-09 23:49:27,151 DEBUG [FFMPEGWrapper] Invoking FFMPEG to retrieve thumbnail for file: J:\TV Shows\The Grand Tour\Season 2\the.grand.tour.s02e01.1080p.web.h264-strife.mkv
2017-12-09 23:49:27,151 DEBUG [ProcessExecutor] Starting C:\Program Files\Serviio\bin\\..\lib\ffmpeg.exe -threads 0 -ss 120 -i J:\TV Shows\The Grand Tour\Season 2\the.grand.tour.s02e01.1080p.web.h264-strife.mkv -an -frames:v 1 -f image2 pipe:

I have a strong feeling that this is the main cause of this issue-
File is currently being used, by uTorrent, as it is still being downloaded.

FFMPEG process starts and uses almost all available CPU, which nearly freezes my PC.
It took me near 10 minutes to open task manager and kill it.
And each time that I do, it regenerates few seconds later (and adds, again, the above 2 lines to the log).

I had shut down the Serviio service, as currently I can't use my computer due to the above issue.

Just wanted to let you know.

Download is kinda slow, but should be done in a couple of hours.
Tomorrow, after the download is done,
I will re-start Serviio, to try to confirm if it was because the file is being used, as I suspect.

Will post back with results.

Cheers.

Re: Bug Report: pc nearly freezes when retrieving thumbnail

Maybe I am missing something but can't this be avoided by simply not downloading to the indexed folder and instead download somewhere else like c:\downloads or somewhere and then once the file is complete copy it to the indexed folder where it belongs?

Hey 'feakink',
Thanks for the reply.

Yes, this can be avoided as you've suggested,
But it is still a bug nonetheless.

This is why I've stated it is a bug report, and not a request for assistant.

Cheers mate.

Re: Bug Report: pc nearly freezes when retrieving thumbnail

Is this happening with all downloads, or just this one?

I suspect something else is at play here. I do exactly this - download via uTorrent directly to the searched folder - all the time and do not have this issue. There were issues with progressive downloading in earlier versions, but it was fixed some time ago.

Not sure what the issues is, but it may be something local rather than a bug.
Ps what os? Is J: local or networked?

Hey mate,
Thank you for replying.

You are right, I haven't provided much info.

OS is Windows 7 x64
Drive is a local drive.
I'm not entirely sure if it happens with all downloads,
As I'm not always downloading to a searched folder,
And, since this issue haven't occurred in the past, I haven't paid much attention to it.....

Anyway,
Download have finished by now,
And currently everything seems fine.

I will pay more attention to it with future downloads.

Cheers.

Re: Bug Report: pc nearly freezes when retrieving thumbnail

Hey guys,

Just a little update-
I just downloaded another video, to the same folder, while Serviio is running.
This time everything was fine.

Don't know what happened to Serviio/FFMPEG last time....

Not much info in the log about it.

Any way I can debug this issue, to get more information to what actually happened?

Cheers

Hi mate,

Debug log is already enabled.

As you can see by my original post,
Not much info is provided, that is related to this issue.

If you run the ffmpeg command as listed in the log file in a command window (you’ll need quotes around the file names) what happens? Does it tell you anything? Does it use high CPU?

Hi mate.
Sorry for the very late reply.
I've somehow missed your comment....

Anyway,
When manually run the command listed in the log file, via CMD,
I get a lot of gibberish,
Followed by a line that reads- "video:108kB audio:0kB subtitle:0kB other streams:0kB global headers:0kB muxing overhead: unknown",
And then cmd freezes for about 20 seconds.

And that's it.

Cheers.

I will.

Thanks for the tip.

Anyway,
This hadn't occurred since,
And never occurred before.

Weird.....

Cheers.
