Cannot connect to the server, it doesn't seem to be running.

I keep getting this message, I reinstalled Serviio two times to no avail. What can be wrong? I've attached the log file. Thank you.

Re: Cannot connect to the server, it doesn't seem to be runn

Well, I see a fatal database error:

  Code:
The database directory 'C:\Program Files\Serviio\library\db' exists. However, it does not contain the expected 'service.properties' file. Perhaps Derby was brought down in the middle of creating this database. You may want to delete this directory and try creating the database again.

I am uncertain if the advice offered in that error (delete directory) is correct for Serviio, but you could try it. I believe an uninstall and clean reinstall would likely clear it up as well.

Re: Cannot connect to the server, it doesn't seem to be runn

I've never encountered this issue before, and I've installed Serviio many times on different computers. Perhaps Zip has an idea, but for now I suggest a reinstall, and this time right-click the install file and choose "Run as Administrator". It shouldn't be necessary, but try it anyway.

when you uninstall, does the Serviio folder under Program Files disappear (ie is it completely clean)? In your case the DB is corrupted, might be access rights... not sure

Hi and thanks for the answers. After uninstalling I deleted everything to do with Serviio. Tried to reinstall it and the problem persists. I payed for a license and now I can't use it, I would really appreciate that this is fixed. Thank you.

Weird, the first start goes ok, the second ffmpeg cannot be found / executed.

A user here had similar issue with ffmpeg: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=24642&p=118243&hilit=ffmpeg#p118261

I figured something wrong with ffmpeg, but I am clueless about what to do next. I downloaded ffmpeg but I don't understand what it does or how to install it. Can you help me?

FFMPEG is the program that does the actual transcoding, based on commands that Serviio provides it. On Windows, it is located in the C:\Program FIles\Serviio\Lib folder. It is called ffmpeg.exe. You can copy a new version into that folder, either over the top of the existing one or rename the original one first.

My Serviio lib folder neve had an ffmpeg.exe file in it, not even after installing. Copying the ffmpeg.exe to the lib folder doesn't solve the problem. What am I doing wrong?

Re: Cannot connect to the server, it doesn't seem to be runn

An update: i tried shutting down bullguard while I installed it and it's working again. Ffmpeg is now on the lib folder after install. Probably bullguard thought it was a virus. I'll post again if Serviio stops working again.

Never heard of Bullguard, but many anti-virus products can cause problems with installing programs. Glad you found the issue!

And it stopped working again. Ffmpeg has simply disappeared from the lib folder. What. The. Hell.

Re: Cannot connect to the server, it doesn't seem to be runn

You might see if there's some way to whitelist ffmpeg in your anti-virus software. It is apparently getting a false positive on ffmpeg.exe and removing the file. I found the instructions for whitelisting a file here: https://www.bullguard.com/support/produ ... tings.aspx about 2/3 the way down the page, under Skip files/folders:.

Re: Cannot connect to the server, it doesn't seem to be runn

HI

I just got a new laptop. Has Serviio for years on the other computers. Its been working fine without a hitch. I can install the latest version and everything is fine...until I do a restart. It looks like the serviio service is being automatically switched off. I tried manual, and delayed auto and it starts and then gets switched off. I too have bullgaurd. The console and serviio.exe are allowed in the firewall. Is it a simple issue of the ffmpeg.exe being allowed in bullguard?? Id post a log but not sure how to. Thanks

Re: Cannot connect to the server, it doesn't seem to be runn

I think we can assume Bullguard has something to do with it. My Serviio also goes down with every restart. The serviio folder is being ignored by the antivirus and the firewall. Is there a fix to this? Should we contact Bullguard? Does anyone have a suggestion? It pains me to have payed for a license for Serviio and not not being able to use it.

Re: Cannot connect to the server, it doesn't seem to be runn

I agree that Bullguard is the source of the problem. Since I'm unfamiliar with the product, I can't really offer a solution beyond what I've already mentioned. It might be worthwhile contacting them. I've been using Serviio for years with Windows 7 and 10 without issue, so I'm comfortable saying that it isn't a Windows problem.

Re: Cannot connect to the server, it doesn't seem to be runn

HI,

I made an exception with bullguard on the ffmpeg.exe file and everything seems to be working fine. Just another tip. I have a samsung series 7000 tv and it plays all movies fine. I have a 2016 LG tv and it seemed to be struggling with playing mkv files. I changed the profile to LG tv and it did not fix anything. I changed its profile to match the samsung tv and now everything plays which is weird. F
